Boston Fire battled an 8-alarm fire in the city's East Boston section Wednesday evening.
Officials say the fire was reported at 85 Lexington St. just before 7:30 p.m. As of 8 p.m., firefighters were blasting water of the tops of the affected building and surrounding buildings.
There's no word yet on any injuries. It's unknown if anyone was in the building at the time and if it's currently occupied.
Winds are gusting at 30 mph from the northwest, according to NECN's Joe Joyce.

Boston had a nine-alarm fire about 2 weeks go, in the Beacon Hill/Back Bay area (very nice neighborhood). Two firefighters died fighting that one.

Boston had a 9 alarm fire in late March, where 2 FF were killed. Out west, CA, maybe they had a large fire in a unfinished apartment building where a construction worker was forced to jump to a lower balcony until rescue arrived. I know that was something like 7 alarms.

Actually it was here in Houston. Construction worker lowered himself to the open area between two balconies, swung his body back and forth and then hoped he would land on the lower balcony where he then had to jump and grab hold of the end of a ladder. Said he really thought he was going to die, just not sure about how it was going to happen.
Folks not real happy about this particular piece of construction as it is being built right next to an old cemetery. Our current gay Democrat mayor has never seen an area that she didn’t want to approve construction of more apartments so the city can have more tax income, more traffic and more people living on top of one another.

It refers to Cotton Mather and Benjamin Franklin (born in 1706). If you’re not familiar with Mather, he was basically the Billy Graham of his day. I had seen a documentary on Franklin around the time I chose the screen name.
My favorite story about the two was when Mather and Franklin (Mather quite old and Franklin quite young) were walking down a stairway, and the ceilings in stairways at the time were low and Franklin bumped his head, to which Mather replied, always stoop through life and you’ll avoid a lot of bumps. In other words, be humble in your doings and you’ll run into less problems.

Yes, I’m very familiar with Cotton Mather which was why I asked you about your name. The year 1706 threw me off. He was born long before that. He was a very interesting person. Smart and educated. He also, IIRC, he was a slave owner.
A lot of Boston folks still feel superior to Southerners feeling, falsely, that northerners would never be slave owners. Of course they are fooling themselves. Northerners owned a lot of slaves. Northerners used cotton in their mills and made a lot of money off the work of slaves. It’s fun to visit the cemetery where he’s buried and tell people he was a slave owner. Of course they won’t believe it.
