On the 40th anniversary of his momentous 715th home run that broke Babe Ruth's MLB home run record, which is the most meaningful in all of sports, Hank Aaron equated Republicans who oppose President Barack Obama's policies to the KKK.
Aaron implied that conservatives are racists who now wear "neckties and starched shirts" instead of hoods.
In an interview with USA Today's Bob Nightengale on Tuesday, "Hammerin' Hank" lamented that the country has not progressed far enough on race relations, saying that though the nation has a black president, "President Obama is left with his foot stuck in the mud from all of the Republicans with the way he's treated."
"We have moved in the right direction, and there have been improvements, but we still have a long ways to go in the country," Aaron said. "The bigger difference is that back then they had hoods. Now they have neckties and starched shirts."(continued)

Sounds like an old timey straw-boss keeping ‘em on the plantation even after they’ve been read the Emancipation Proclamation. Some people just do not want the responsibilities of liberty and freedom.
Aaron was one of the all-time greats, and he had every right to be bitter and angry over the death threats and disgusting behavior he was subjected to when he neared and then broke Babe Ruth’s 714 HR mark. But it was a long time ago, the gaggle of thugs threatening and insulting him were in no way representative of the US then or now. He’s letting that experience distort his perception of reality and that’s a real pity - sometimes age doesn’t bring wisdom, especially when a person hangs on to decades-old anger.

The buzz word was “civility” when liberals are burned by well founded conservative critics.Ironically, they used the lack of civility charge to try to smear Sarah Palin with blame for the shooting of the Arizona Congressman by that nut case(Who turned out to be a rabid leftist) But cries for civility are never heard when egregious smears like this one come from their own ranks

Hank, unfortunately, is totally ignorant of his roots. His comments about the KKK show this. The KKK arose three times in our history, and all three times when either the blacks (Republicans then, freed by Lincoln) we’re in control. They had the majority vote in the slave states at that time, in SC the local armed militias were all black...whites would not join. They joined the KKK instead. In the other two instances, the Republicans were in control giving blacks rights they deserved. The Democrat whites turned to the KKK to oppose these efforts. Too bad blacks today are ignorant of their history...a history they mistakenly throw in our faces daily (as Hank has done). It is not a sign of political ideology, it is a sign of ignorance...once again the schools have failed us teaching people an alternate history.
What he accomplished sports-wise was amazing, and he did it after Jackie Robinson had broken the color barrier. The response was basically: Well we let you play the game, but you shouldn't have broken any of our records.
He's probably got a really huge chip on his shoulder and so let him rail away.

Hank seems to be making comments based soley based on protection of his own race without regard to his character, performance, and history. Go figure. MLK would be pissed at HA.
