World must shift to solar & wind rapidly to avoid catastrophic global warming, say UN scientists
The London Daily Mail ^ | April 12, 2014 | Ben Spencer in Berlin

Posted on 04/13/2014 8:14:43 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today.

Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says.

‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar.

And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive.

The report was published in Berlin today after a week of line-by-line drafting and re-drafting.

The final version, written by 235 international scientists and economists, says that efforts so far have failed to stop spiralling emissions of greenhouse gases – which have risen to ‘unprecedented levels’ in the past decade....

Not good news for the Audubon Club’s efforts to prevent the extinction of the Golden Earle in California.

At the levels they want, I suspect that interrupting that much sunshine from impacting the earth, and bleeding off wind currents will actually have a chance of screwing up the earth (at least locally around the installations).

You know what the goo-goos say when it come to economics:
“We’re all going to be dead anyway.”? Well, there it is, Un.

Wow, being a UN scientist is a good job:

Up to 40 days vacation a year, no income tax and up to a couple hundred thousand $ a year.

Well, that would only be temporary, but afterwards, all the liberals would be happy....of course they’d also be dead.

I guess they learned they’re mistake with the “5 year” catastrophism; 15 years should see all the middle-aged doom mongers through to retirement at least.

What will happen to our climate when a million wind plants suck a terawatt of power out of the moving air and convert it eventually to low-level thermal waste?

I have no idea what that means, if it means anything, but I have sent in the paperwork to get a government grant to study it!

Let China, India, Brazil, Russia,, Iran, and Africa lead the way.

As far as the US is concerned, maybe it is time to give the wealthy elites who say they believe in this crap a taste of what they are trying to impose on the rest of us. Let’s require every home in the US with a value of $5 million or more to be taken off the grid and required to use only solar and wind power generated on site. No backup generators permitted. The Hollywood leftists who live in Malibu might make out all right but those inland might find it less than comfortable at night when there is no wind. Certainly those on the upper West side will find solar panels on the rooftops of their condo and coop buildings don’t generate enough power.

Also ban private jets, make the limousine liberals fly commercial. Ban car services and private automobiles in Manhattan. Make the elites use public transportation. Ban use of government and private jets by all members of the federal bureaucracy and Congress. Let them fly commercial.

Build wind farms off Martha’s Vineyard, the Hamptons, Malibu, Palm Beach, Miami Beach, and Boca Raton. Cover the most exclusive country clubs in the US with solar panels. Eliminate first class on commercial flights.

Until they have to live with the consequences of their stupidity, they will keep piling it on. I realize there may be a few wealthy conservatives who would suffer, but I doubt it would be long.

Is that the catastrophic warming of which we’ve recorded precisely zero degrees of of over the last two decades of global mean temperature monitoring? The same zero degrees of mean warming that has prompted desperate pleas for immediate action to stave off DOOM during every one of those years?

Or is it the catastrophic warning that the IPCC predicts won’t show up on the thermometer?

Perhaps it’s the catastrophic warming that the IPCC claims will cause global sea levels to rise 1.6cm a year over the next century? Despite sea levels rising at 7+cm per year on average since the end of the last glacial maximum, and nearly 3cm a year since the dawn of the industrial revolution. That 1.6cm total predicted MUST be catastrophic, and MUST be anthropogenic, it simply MUST be and if you don’t agree then you’re obviously a horrible evil person guilty of crimes against humanity.

Seriously people, predictive models that fail to predict reality are most likely based on flawed assumptions - one should go back and re-asses those assumptions and craft new models more likely to reflect observed reality. Failure to do so is a hallmark of, fascinatingly enough, both superstition and communism.

The climate science debate has been hijacked by both radical socialists intent on destroying productivity in the advanced world and radical gaia-hypothesis environmentalist whackjobs intent on destroying large numbers of human beings.

Climate change is a scam, but the UN needs that as a motive to roll out their Agenda 21. (Which is already being embraced by many planning and zoning commissions)

Great proposal. But I think they should keep their private jets. Wind or solar powered private jets.

I wonder how many degrees in temp change a world full of mirrors would cause?

in 5 years we will have alternate power sources that will make solar farms look neanderthal.

in 15 years we will have even cooler power sources.

These global warming hystericals aren’t very forward-thinking.

In China those big wind farm areas suck all the energy from the winds....and reduce rainfall locally ...thus reducing food production.

Anyway...the Sun's magnetic field is in decline...so less sunspots are formed.

Expect the next ice age to kick in around 2016/17.
