Why not just put a statue of Ike. Twice life size should be about right. Give it a nice pedestal too, and put a park around it.

Ike was legendary for his modesty. Somehow an immense taxpayer boondoggle of a monument with “80-foot-tall pillars” just doesn’t seem to fit the man, great as he was.

A $150 million dollar monument cost? This is obscene. This has morphed into a perpetual welfare program for planning committee members and anybody involved with this boondoggle.

A park and very nice statue and perhaps a small visitor/museum center would be appropriate and far more in keeping with Ike’s personality and outlook.

Eisenhower Family Hates Gehry Design

I would too. It’s awful. They should just shut down this thing after almost a decade of squabbling. What a waste of money.

How about a 20 year hiatus on all new memorials in DC?

Nine full-time, taxpayer-funded employees and a board of aging political leaders have spent the better part of a decade planning the memorial to President Eisenhower,

Ironic, that Eisenhower could plan something much more complex as in the D-Day invasion, in much shorter time than these bozos.

The high-water mark for memorial design was achieved long ago...

Who ever appointed Gehry in the first place was an idiot. Gehry is a Modernist and Modernist take pride in being let us say unique. Or to quote one of the early Modernist “What I do here will at least have the merit of not resembling anybody”. You are going to get this Gehry monstrosity. People like Gehry think it all about his feelings and expressing his feelings. The fact that it was memorial for Ike is secondary.
