Depends on perspective. Our ruling class has learned lessons they will be delighted to repeat: (1) Keep giving free stuff to the poor—they will always give you power and other people’s money; (2) Continue giving more and more power to public employee unions and promise them any pensions they want. They will vote to give you power and money; (3) Continue making businesses dependent on government power. They will keep giving you money and power in return for regulations, taxes, etc. (4) Continue the destruction of families and churches. They provide a power base that can reduce your power and money. Replace parents with unionized government teachers, social workers etc. They are unionized and will provide you power and money.
Not to say this is all about power and money. But our leftist brothers seem to have learned effective lessons from history.
