That's exactly what the captain of the Costa Concordia said too -- and he is in prison for that right now.
If the power goes off on a ship it’s so dark you can slap yourself and not know who hit you.
Emergency lights, probably red, will come on but unless you are familiar with the ship you’re pretty much lost.
Trying to get out of a ship listing to one side isn’t as easy as most people think it would be.
The bottom of the stairs to get you to the next deck/level might be 10 feet or more over your head. You would have to figure out how to get to them before you could even begin to climb out.
