We knew they were behind this long before they admitted it. They had any number of left-wing magazines on their payroll. And I'm not even saying that the people who ran those magazines were helping the Russians for money. As far as I can tell, they were true believers. The Russians merely helped them make a full-time living out of what would otherwise have been a hobby.
Admitting it is a big deal when it comes to persuading believers that they’ve been had. Any other refutation is typically shrugged aside as propaganda.
Nowadays, it seems that RT, Global Research, Occupy Wall Street and people like Alex Jones, Ron Paul, Edward Snowden and Lyndon LaRouche have become the newest beneficiaries of the new Russian media campaign.
They host them and fete them, and back and adopt many of their positions. It’s evident that they see these conspiracy theories as advantageous for Russian interests. True believers used as useful idiots.
Just a few days ago Putin had Snowden come on RT with him just so he could ask him whether Russia spied on Russian citizens, even though there’s plenty of evidence that they do.
Putin said that unlike America, Russia does not spy on any citizen without a court order. Propaganda at its finest.
