The college I taught at in Japan had a policy of including a few (high-level) Down’s students every year. They had a program to first figure out what they were interested in and what they could do. Most ended up in the programming/IT or sports/entertainment technology programs, but I had a couple in my English classes every semester. Most, of course, had a difficult time, but over the years there were a few who took to English and could do as well as our average students.
Not all Down’s kids have to end up as grocery baggers or janitor’s assistants.
