Medicaid paid $12M for Illinois dead, audit finds

The Illinois Medicaid program paid an estimated $12 million for medical services for people listed as deceased in other state records, according to an internal state government memo.

The memo dated Friday, which The Associated Press obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, says the state auditor compared clients enrolled in the Medicaid database with state death records dating back to 1970. Auditors identified overpayments for services to roughly 2,900 people after the date of their deaths...

Republicans have pressed for the state to use a private company to verify Medicaid eligibility. Maximus Health Services was hired to scrub state Medicaid rolls following 2012 Medicaid-reform legislation. Republicans have said the company was achieving a Medicaid eligibility-removal rate of 40 percent.

The contract between the company and Gov. Pat Quinn ended last year, and the work was shifted to state employees after the state's largest public employee union objected and an arbitrator ruled the contract should end.

So once again Unions have shown that they run Illinois.

The Unions have shown that they can’t or won’t do the jobs they are paid to do and yet are unwilling to let anyone else do the job.

I am sick and tired of writing checks to the IRS every year only to see it being scammed, abused, or wasted by an inefficient government. Maybe we all should just flush our income tax checks down the toilet and save the federal government an extra step because that is what they do with it anyway.

It is obvious that the people of Illinois are unable to run a state due to the corruption of all its agencies. There should be no public sector unions, who do nothing but scam the taxpayers. But when the taxpayers of Illinois are stupid cows who stand for being milked, one can understand why corruption rules that state.

So who cashed the check and why aren’t there any prosecutions? Obviously, dead people don’t cash checks but somebody else took the money and ran. Not too difficult to trace some of them, since they are probably dumb-ass liberals.

Bet they all were all voters in last election.

This is not clerical error either — it is criminal intent.

Anyone who has had a family member die knows how quickly SSA acts to cut off those monthly checks without the family having to do anything more than burying them through a funeral home.

The funeral home makes two phone calls and the ball is rolling — it’s automatic unless someone is there interfering with the machine at some level — and they should be easy to find and prosecute. Money always leaves a trail.

If you consider these financial outlays on a per-voter basis they are quite reasonable.

The assumption in your statement is that those of us who actually live here in Illinois "don't care."

Quite the opposite. The problem in this state is that at every level (municipal, township, county, state) and across every elected office including judges, corruption is rampant. Not just rampant, it's seemingly a way of life once one gets elected in this state.

Illinois is a classic case of there being no difference between the Democrat and Republican parties. The Democrats enjoy supermajorities in both the Illinois House and Illinois Senate, and can pass anything they want. They frequently do.

The Republican's in this state know there's no way back to "power" in this state so they play along with the Democrats so they can keep their perks and their multiple state pensions.

It really does not matter who we vote for in this state and nothing will change until there's a revolution.

Even the so-called Republican candidate for Governor Bruce Rauner is already known to be corrupt. He gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democrats across this state, including Rahm Emmanuel when he was running for Mayor of Chicago. Rauner's running these laughing stock commercials saying "he'll shake up Springfield."

No he won't, he'll shake-down Springfield for all its worth. Rauner's a multi-millionaire (est. over $100 million) running on the Republican ticket for Governor.

What's a guy with $100 million plus in personal wealth doing spending $12 million of his own money (so far) running for Governor, a job that pays less than I make every year? What's in it for Rauner?

I'll tell you: Rauner owns businesses across this state, some of which already do business WITH the state. He's going to use the Governor's office to get himself a bigger piece of the state business pie. And it'll be all legal-like too because he's bought and paid for the Democrat party in this state. They'll give him what he wants as long as the money keeps flowing.

Meanwhile the rest of us are f*cked paying higher taxes, taking home less money, and dealing with schools that aren't worth sh*t while our roads crumble and fall apart too.

Yeah, good times living here in Illinois, and the dumbasses that live here keep voting for it, right?

BTW: I’m shocked it’s only $12 million. I’d have expected that number to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars knowing the incompetent jackasses that run this state.
