I’ve always like the word juxtaposition. But I’m confused at it’s use here and it’s use in general.
Dictionary.com puts a negative connotation to it while OED and WB keep it simple and plain. It’s always had a negative connotation to it for me as something like a “stark paradoxical comparison”. Probably because I picked it up in 1982 from a Piers Anthony book, when my eidetic memory was still functioning.
If the definition is as simple as OED and WB defines it, it would be a weird weird world when the construction foreman tells the common laborer “Hey, juxtaposition that pile of bricks”.
So I kind of find it astonishing that I completely understood what the poster was saying despite the OED and WB definition. They must have read that Piers Anthony book as well.
The Germans have a cool translation for it too.
