Pipeline delay gives boost to Obama's political base
Reuters ^ | April 20, 2014 | BY JEFF MASON AND STEVE HOLLAND

The latest delay to a final decision on the Keystone XL oil pipeline will reinforce a White House strategy to energize President Barack Obama's liberal-leaning base before fall elections in which Democrats risk losing control of the U.S. Senate.

Environmentalists, worried about the project's effect on climate change, have put enormous pressure on the president to reject the pipeline from Canada's oil sands, staging demonstrations outside the White House and protests in states where he travels.

A decision to approve it now could have prompted that vocal group, which was instrumental in electing Obama in 2008 and 2012, to sit out the November 4 congressional elections.

How does it help the environment to have the oil transported in a train rather than a pipeline?

Other news outlets have described a possible rebellion by some democrats over this decision.

Leave it to Rooters to put lipstick on the pig.

If I were Harper I would hold a press conference and say we are no longer seeking to send our oil to America. China has shown an actual interest in this oil unlike America.

The majority of environmentalists rarely think beyond the immediate emotion of the issue in front of them. They begin with a premise - oil is bad or coal is bad - and they cannot think beyond that.

This lack of depth has given us “solutions” that are worse than the problem. I truly believe they would block any new form of clean energy based on oil or coal just as they have blocked anything that says nuclear for decades. It’s emotion, not reason, that guides them. Combined with the new green energy crony capitalism it is difficult to overcome.

There is big money betting against it. There is big money betting for it. Reason says to build it - emotion says to kill it. The delays already reveal how corrupted we have become to crony-environmentalism. Our nation has a fever, but it’s not the one Al Gore talked about.

At what point do all the idiot miners, loggers, farmers, ranchers ect stop voting for Democrats and the RINOs who enable them by voting with them?

THAT is the question. Because many of them keep cutting their own throat, and ours, then complaining about what they brought on themselves.

Anti-Keystone Billionaire Tom Steyer is waving around $100+ MIllion to punish Global Warming Deniers and elect Democrat Believers

http://www.nationaljournal.com/energy/climate-activist-plans-100-million-election-year-push-20140218

“Steyer is “rallying other deep-pocketed donors, seeking to build a war chest that would make his political organization, NextGen Climate Action, among the largest outside groups in the country, similar in scale to the conservative political network overseen by Charles and David Koch,” The Times reports.

National Journal’s Amy Harder reported Monday on his potential attack ads against Sen. Mary Landrieu, a Louisiana Democrat who supports the Keystone XL pipeline, a project that Steyer is trying to defeat.”

Obamas decision on Keystone is bought and paid for

They don't want the oil transported at all. They prefer it stays in the ground

I think Canada has already mentioned this in the past. And then those same liberals get up and say we need to be independent from buying oil from nations that are not our friends?

I’m a cynic. Could there be a deal to approve the pipeline and “reform” (ie: cave) on immigration in the lame duck session?

As soon as Republicans have both houses and SCOTUS. At that point not much can be done for Bambi. Of course that would be racist.

Well, the liberals don’t want oil transported in a train either. They don’t want us to transport oil at all. They want us to build windmills and solar panels.

They wouldn't like the horse-and-buggy days either; it took a LOT of land to grow the food for the horses. Oil and gas has a much smaller footprint today than farmland for feeding the horses did a hundred years ago.

I never understand the liberals on the issue of electric cars.

Liberals want us all to drive electric cars. But they never stop to think where the electricity to charge the car batteries comes from .

They don’t realize that if we suddenly had millions of electric cars on the road, that we would need greatly increased need for power plants. And that these power plants would likely be coal fired power plants.

So arguably, if we could put millions of electric cars on the road tomorrow, we would increase the dreaded greenhouse gases from coal fired power plants, making global warming that much worse.

But the liberals never think these things through. They think electricity comes out of the wall, as if by magic, and don’t think about how it gets generated.
