LET ARIZONA VOTE: AZ SENATOR BIGGS THWARTING CONVENTION OF STATES VOTE

Arizona Senate President Andy Biggs is blocking a vote on the very popular Convention of States Application (SCR 1016) which calls for an Article V Convention to propose amendments to the Constitution that would limit the scope and power of the federal government. Here’s what happened.

The bill passed the Arizona House by a large majority. Biggs, however, has always been opposed to the idea of an Article V Amending convention, even though stalwart conservative pundits and thinkers like George Will, Mark Levin, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck, and David Barton all support the idea.

Citing fears of a “runaway convention,” Biggs is apparently more comfortable continuing to let Congress and the President “runaway” with our liberties.

Let’s say the Convention of The States is finally triggered. Where would it be held?.................Hopefully not D.C. or any state that did not vote for the convention..................

Biggs does not want to jump out of the near boiling pot of water on the Obamanation stove whose eternal flame is loyally protected by Doormat Republicans such as Boehner and McConnell.

I am also unsure about this.

You do understand that ANY convention held today would enshrine in the constitution itself the right to an abortion, and special privileges for blacks and gays, and you can go ahead and kiss your guns goodbye.

Where would it be held

The time and location would be the only input to the process from Congress. And yes, Dirty Harry could try to delay it. My guess is it ends up in the courts. But there is no modern precedent, so all this needs to be settled once and for all.

It MUST be held in a state that is deeply conservative and also has concealed carry or open carry...................

Any amendments PROPOSED by the Convention must be voted on and passed by the requisite number of states before they go into effect, so all those fears of a ‘runaway’ convention are groundless. So what if those are ‘proposed’. I doubt that they would even make it to the floor for debate, much less submitted to the states for their approval.

And not all states must attend. I would not be surprised if the deep Blue States boycotted the convention all together..................

ANY convention held today would enshrine in the constitution itself the right to an abortion...

How do you figure?

a) Each state gets 1 vote.
b) Any amendments proposed must be ratified by 38 states.

So, any 13 states could stop any amendment. The worst-case scenario is that nothing comes of it.

WRONG. Read Levin’s book and then look at what the states are passing. They are specific and have methodology. There will be NO run away as long as the states do what they say they will

um...

you have more faith in our political class than I do

I have no doubt that if given the chance at a convention all the “rules” you “think” apply will be thrown out the window.

Basically the second a convention is called, our current constitution ceases to exist, and the new convention can adopt any rules it wants on how many states are needed for ratification or switch the rules completely and make it where instead of a certain percentage of states it is proportional to the populations of each state.

I am warning you, this is a can of worms you will regret opening. Do you really want John McCain re-writing our constitution? because that's what's going to happen. And the PEOPLE of the states will have ZERO to say, because the elected officials will be the ones to vote to adopt and as we already know the left is ALWAYS willing to take one for the team to advance their agenda.

So... all those RINO’s hiding and pretending... will suddenly show who they REALLY are and vote for ratification knowing they will lose their seat, but thinking it was worth it.

We have a Constitution they ignore already. How would a new one garner any more respect?

From the column, Citing fears of a “runaway convention . . ."

That is a BS, strawman argument. He knows very well that AZ will precisely limit the powers of their delegates if AZ petitions congress for a convention to propose amendments.

Here is the FL bill (HB609) that does just that:

<>Article V Constitutional Convention: Establishes qualifications of delegates & alternate delegates to Article V constitutional convention; provides for appointment of delegates by Legislature; authorizes Legislature to recall delegate & fill vacancy; authorizes presiding officers to call special legislative session to carry out certain provisions relating to appointments; requires delegates to sign oath; provides for instructions to delegates; establishes circumstances under which convention vote is declared void; provides circumstances under which delegate's appointment is forfeited; establishes circumstances under which application to call Article V convention ceases to be continuing application & is deemed to have no effect; provides penalties; establishes delegate advisory group.<>

Yep, I can see it now... the new constitution says something like

Americans shall have the right to keep and bear arms.

And then one of the new nominated supreme court judges would simply interpret that to mean than Americans have the right to keep bears who have arms.

We would lose ALL of our current supreme court and a new one would be appointed by.... guess who? a moderate coalition headed by John McCain and Lindsey Graham.
