Ted Cruz endorses Pete Ricketts

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas has endorsed Pete Ricketts in Nebraska's Republican gubernatorial primary race.

Cruz, the hard-right Texan who has been embraced by the tea party movement and the Republican Liberty Caucus, said Ricketts is "a businessman and a constitutional conservative who will help Nebraska thrive.

"Pete's priorities for tax reform, job growth and education reform will expand opportunity for Nebraskans," Cruz said in a statement issued by the Ricketts campaign early Tuesday morning.

"I especially admire Pete's strong, principled leadership in support of school choice," Cruz said, which will "empower parents and expand the educational options for every child in Nebraska."

Cruz said he "appreciate(s) Pete's opposition to amnesty and support for the rule of law" in considering immigration reform.

Republican rival Jon Bruning's campaign has questioned Ricketts' record on immigration reform in TV ads that refer to earlier statements by Ricketts indicating an openness to considering a pathway to legal status for immigrants who have settled illegally in the United States.  In response, Ricketts has said he always has opposed amnesty.

Cruz, whose combative rhetoric has made him a controversial figure in the Senate, joins 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin in endorsing Ricketts in the six-candidate GOP gubernatorial contest.  Palin flew to Nebraska earlier this month to hand her endorsement to Ricketts at a campaign rally in Grand Island.

Cruz has been "a steadfast opponent of federal government overreach on matters best left to states and local government," Ricketts said.

"He's made the case and led the charge against massive top-down federal programs such as Obamacare. I am grateful to have his support."

Cruz said Ricketts is "a friend and will make an outstanding governor."

“Cruz, the hard-right Texan”
Take note of “hard-right”. The media would never consider even calling a Democrat “left” much less “hard-left”.
Those who control the language control everything.
