WSJ: California Politicians Looting Cap and Trade Fund
Breitbart ^ | 23 April, 2014 | Adelle Nazarian

It's California’s latest spending rush--and this time it involves carbon. For years, the Wall Street Journal has been reporting that cap and trade's real purpose was to create another revenue stream for politicians while dodging accountability for raising taxes. Now Senate President Darrel Steinberg is suggesting that cap and trade revenues be used to finance the state’s $68 billion "bullet" train.

One problem: The cap-and-trade revenues must be used to reduce carbon emissions. According to one analyst, the train's construction will do just the opposite; it will increase emissions.

An initiative that was once intended to reach green programs (e.g. solar subsidies) has morphed into a seemingly generally-accepted accounting principle of looting and raiding internal accounts to backfill the budget won. And with the state legislative analyst’s prediction that cap and trade will raise between $12 billion and $45 billion by 2020, it’s no wonder those sticky political fingers keep making their way back to the carbon cookie jar.

I am concerned that American’s in general have become too stupid to govern themselves. I am absolutely certain that California voters (as a general populous) fit the bill. CA needs a benevolent dictator to save them from themselves. The citizens of CA should all where collars and chains to prove their voluntary servitude to the state.

If you still live in CA and are not planning or working on getting out, well.... see above.

Thus goes any communist state.

I used to think we needed to fight to keep our land, but in the case of California, I insist we hand it over to Mexico IMMEDIATELY.

What is it with you oh so enlightened and holier than thou non-CA FReepers casting aspersions on people simply because of where they live?

I am here because my employment is here...6 figures, I like the climate, the geography, decent people, live in a RED county and have a pro-2nd Amendment Sheriff.

Generalizing is stupid and you’re generalizing.

It's not a question of stupid, its a question of values. If the people who comprise a society believe they should earn their living, people are individually productive and the society can be successful.

If the people who comprise a society believe they deserve the fruit of another's labor, they will dedicate their efforts to taking from their neighbor (rather than productive endeavour) and the society must fail.

Tax & spend is a symptom, because each thinks he will benefit from the sacrifice of another.

I lived in California for 3 years and I definitely think Californians are not stupid, but they sure elect politicians who are! How many people would have to ride daily and at what fare to pay operating expenses and recoup a $68 billion “investment”?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORDS OF WISDOM!
Most of these “pontificators on California” probably live in a double-wide with an outhouse and and some inoperable appliances (or cars) in their front yard. They are just jealous. California would not be where it is today if it were not for our Federal government’s immigration “policies,” and these fatuous jerks had better hope we find a fix because they’re next if we don’t.

The RAT machine is well oiled and tuned...it doesn’t help that FedGov judges overturned a Proposition to limit or eliminate taxpayer funded services to illegals, thus enhancing/increasing the illegal population.

SEIU and CTA are very influential here...unfortunately.

With regards to the so-called “high speed rail”, follow the money...why are farmers in the Central Valley being denied water for their farms? It’s not really about a non-indigenous minnow...

What is the proposed route for this boondoggle? Through the Central Valley. Who would profit if farmers are forced to sell their land?

There are lawsuits being filed for failure to adhere to the limits in the proposition...time will tell if right wins out.

I’m a transplant and I have no roots here, but it’s home...I really tire of the aspersions...trying to sound like a real “smart” person by claiming how “stupid” people are is the move of someone trying to claim the moral high ground and somehow demonstrate their “superiority”.

Hang in there vette and keep fighting the good fight!

Apologies for frustrated generalizations and hurt feelings. Guilty. I’ll watch it in the future.

I lived in Silicon Valley for 3.5 years. I requested, and was granted, a transfer with pay cut to get out with my wife. She had to find a new job.

I comment from some experience in CA.

Well said ... thank you for this. I would also add that Californians consistently top the list in donations to FR -- not to mention that's where JimRob lives and FR is based.
