Started in the late 90’s as more police agencies got better investigators and lab assets. To stay up with the trend of investigative police work becoming more thought than brawn the old style tough cowboy type was usurped by city boys and females (diversity you know). There are still a few in the ranks of the old make up, very few.
I remember a while back it was noted that only a handful of the active Rangers had even been on an actual horse compared to most if not all before the 70’s - 80’s.
