But he made it clear up front that he did not advocate for any return to it, or going back in history.

Then why did he say that perhaps blacks were better off under it? Sorry, but Bundy decided to go media hog and runn off on a tangent, shooting his mouth off on things totally unrelated to his own actions and his problems with the BLM. Why he would think that anyone would give a damn about what he thinks about blacks and Mexicans is beyond me. People can try and explain it away and justify it and say "what he really meant was..." all they want. All this is still self inflicted. He shot himself in the foot all on his own, and he has kept firing round after round into it ever since.

This is an easy one. IF the MSM and the regime can convince the low intelligence voter that Bundy and his supporters are racist and/or white supremacists, their rights will be forfeited and they can be killed and their property seized at will.
I happen to think this one attempt by the NYT will fail because of the posting(s) of Mr Bundy’s full speech. But that does not mean they will give up. I suspect they will just keep trying to build on this narrative.

I find it funny to watch the pundits on tv as their heads explode over this...yet they don’t seem inclined in the least to even consider the validity of the pondering of Mr Bundy.

Is Black America better or worse off today?

I also find it interesting to see how the media continue to shove a microphone in front of Mr Bundy...if they truly feel he is a racist crank, then why give him air time?

The answers are obvious, of course.

This is not about race. The democrats want to make it about race because they need to mobilize the minorities to vote in the midterms. Isn’t that obvious to everyone?

Just drop the issue. Bundy needs to go away. There are people of all races living in the project houses in Las Vegas. They can’t get jobs picking cotton because the illegal aliens do it for less than the minimum wage.

Want to abolish the minimum wage? That would solve a lot of problems. Slavery is not the answer here.

was wrong about the comparison to slavery I dunno JH. I'd argue that as bad as slavery was, the liberal/government slavery black culture finds itself chained in is worse in some respects. At the very least slaves knew they were slaves, and could yearn for freedom.

No he did not. He could give the perfect response and still it would be edited to discredit him

I might rephrase —

Today’s welfare state is worse than the physical slavery of the past; it is more abhorrent and despicable.

And explain —

Today’s welfare state enslaves the mind, the morals, the motivation; one’s very soul. That is backed up by the quoted statistics.

I believe one can maintain one’s moral soul during physical slavery (Kunta Kinte, Jeremiah Denton, ...)

I have not not lessened the evil of the slavery of the past; the liberals, progressives, and race-baiters have surpassed it.

>>Badly worded perhaps, but he didn’t say anything that might be considered hateful. He made it far too easy, however, for liberals to take what he said of context and claim it is. This is something they can and do sink their teeth into and divert attention from the real issue. They are 100% behind the iron boot of government stepping all over the rights of citizens to live in this country freely. Freedom to them means freedom of government, not the people.<<

There certainly is too many FReepers who took what Bundy said out of context. They didn’t look for an audio that they could listen to and decide for themselves if what he said was offensive.

FReepers who post replies without reading the full article fit into the same box of Low Information Voters just as easily as the Dims do.

Because people speak in rough drafts, as they also write in rough drafts.

If Clive Bundy were to sit down and write out his thoughts, and then go back to them a few days later and edit them, and then take a third look a week later, he would likely do better expressing what is on his mind.

As would most of us.

“Cliven Bundy, who is well into his seventies, did not articulate himself very well, and was wrong about the comparison to slavery.”

Understatement. Anyone that says “I seen ...” is not a spokesman for anything. He made some stupid statements but let’s hope he shuts his mouth long enough for us to get back to the real issue which is fed overreach.

No, he was responding to a reporter.

The man is well into his seventies. He is doing all he can to defend what he views as his way of life and freedom. That is not going off "media hog."

People pointed guns at him and his family. They tazed his son, and threw his relatives to the ground.

Folks who ranch all of their lives are not what you may consider "sophisticated," but they can generally spot a ringer from a mile off, and he knows down trodden people when he sees them.

Good on him for at least standing in the breach. Would to God that we had tens of millions more willing to stand in such a fashion.

Long winded, but a good rant, to bad the low info voter can’t understand such simple thoughts.

It doesn't matter what Mr Bundy tried to say, the media/left will put the most negative spin on his comments.
I'm not saying he was right or wrong. I'm just saying the left will try to use it to their advantage. It's what they do.

Right on the point; I would remind everyone of Marco Rubio and his bottle of water. I even remember reading people criticizing him for not thinking that through without realizing it was a show of the media flexing their muscles to destroy someone without needing a cause. Apparently people are shallow enough to fall for it; or the ones in the beltway are.

This hysteria was supposed to happen when Harry Reid called Bundy a domestic terrorist. He didn't figure on the fact he was such a laughing stock that it wouldn't matter. So he sent a reporter to make another attack. If you open your mouth (even for a drink of water) the media can stick you foot in it; but that should be no reason for the American people to give up on the God given right of free speech.
