Tombstone's water woes continue [ Arizona ]

A recent fire in Tombstone's historical district has brought back the battle between the city and the feds over the town's water supply.

Tombstone gets its water from a highly protected wilderness area in the Huachuca Mountains. The pipeline that transports water 30 miles across Cochise County has had problems since the Monument Fire in 2011. According to the City they still haven't been able to get the proper equipment into the area to permanently fix the issues.

The structures in Tombstone's historic district are like a tinderbox. In the past few years alone the site of what is currently Old West Studio has burned down twice and continued water worries have some residents like Hal Cloughley on edge.

...

Without being able to access all of their spring heads in the Huachucas with mechanized equipment, every time the pipeline gets washed out they are forced into a long process of getting it fixed.

"One time they shut us down for using a wheelbarrow because it's mechanized. I guess it is because it has a wheel I don't know," says Schmidt.

According to the Goldwater Institute who is representing Tombstone in its fight for water rights, the U.S. Forest Service has only allowed Tombstone access to three of their twenty five springs.

I loath Martha McSally based on her actions in the military and the number of A-10 pilots I met who couldn’t stand her. However, I think anyone running as a republican in this district ought to be out trumpeting Tombstone’s water rights.

The west side of Tucson is out of the district, so the liberal hellhole of the UofA And La Raza isn’t a factor. I think most people can understand that water rights that have existed since the 1880s ought to be honored.

I’m not familiar with her, just have seen a couple of stories on Fox News. Based only on that I figure that she ought to be better to have in Congress than a Giffords’ Dimocrat clone.

Loved visiting Tombstone, Bisbee, the mountains and running up and down Huachuca Canyon when I was at Ft. Huachuca for the MI basic and advanced courses.

I agree and support your points about water rights and the Feds. Sorry if my “Tombstone is quaint but dumpy” comment offended anybody.

Didn’t need to be said...

No offense. I just thought it wasn’t pertinent to the post about their water rights.

Raul Grijalva is about as close to a communist as anybody can get. He’s worthless.

You got that right.

The USFS also has a SWAT team, so we can have local and federal SWATs dueling in the desert.

The Fed will back down, and something important for freedom will be established.

Federal management of public lands cannot extend to injuring residents. The very definition of ‘public lands’ says one cannot injure the public.

In Santa Fe county , New Mexico, a family bought a piece of property, 20 miles from the Rio Grande. The EPA stopped them from clearing the property, because, according to the EPA, it would disturb the flow of water to the Rio Grande. What’s happening now is just the tip of the “ICE BERG”, on what all of these Unelected bureaucrats are up to. Even after they lose a court battle, they ignore the court’s decision, and continue their harassment of the citizens.

Nine states are meeting now trying to take back what is theirs; their own territories.
