Six years later, the cynics must be feeling vindicated. They snickered at John Kerrys bid for Middle East peace, calling it doomed to fail. They seem to have been right. They have also chortled at Kerrys long meetings with Russias Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, calling diplomacy with Vladimir Putin a fools errand. The impending collapse of the Ukraine deal struck in Geneva last night would seem to affirm that view.
The cynics also doubting Obamas Asia pivot, seeing it as a futile attempt to dodge harder problems elsewhere. Obamas distracted trip this week is at least a point in their favor.
And they argue that Obamas aversion to getting involved in Syria is not only a humanitarian tragedy but will cause deeper problems for the U.S. in the long run. A new chemical weapons crisis would be a good example.
Its obviously too simplistic to blame Obamas for all these problems. Among other things, he inherited severe foreign policy problems from George W. Bush; in multiple ways Obama is still harvesting the bitter fruit of Americas wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Still, Obama promised things would be different that he would upend Washington thinking and find a new way of solving problems. That he prove those cynics wrong. The cynics, being cynics, said it couldnt be done. At the moment, they seem to have the better of the argument.

Look what Reagan inherited..what fools
Every disaster is due to OBAMA and his criminal government.
They lie, and TIME magazine bows obediently, over and over.
Right. Lest we forget, Bush inherited a situation of emboldened terrorists who struck frequently with no fear of reprisals, because the president before him did not want to do anything about it. Without that, would 9-11 have happened, forcing us into war?
-—— a futile attempt to dodge harder problems-——
The writer misunderstands........ everyday until he leaves office has been scheduled with an event to push some agenda. This hardwired schedule leaves no room for adjustment or common sense attempt to address an immediate problem.
The schedule rules and a change requires at least two weeks.
The result is dithering.
“It would be simplistic to blame Obama for all these problems.”
Call me Mr. Simple, then.
Crowley is married to Sarah McDonald, a program manager in Washington for the Aspen Institute
And no, he isn't related to Monica Crowley, either ....
Respect has to be earned and the Obama crew thinks it’s entitled to it. Surprise!
It seems the arrested development crowd that supports Obama does not realize the damage they did by constantly demonizing President Bush. Yes, there was a lot to criticize but they went too far. They tried to destroy a President. These actions decimated any moral authority this nation had achieved. And now they have to drink the water from the well they spit in.
Very few of Obama’s foreign policy opponents think we should be in Syria at all. Or Libya. Or Egypt.
This isn’t Time coming to reality on Obama.
This is Time trying to salvage the “Arab Spring” debacle.
If you hire a Kenyan Girly-Boy to do the job of an American Man you had better be ready for things to get real bad, real fast.
It’s fair to blame “the one” for making everything worse, far worse.
The headstone on Obama’s grave will read: “Bush’s Fault”!
Bush toppled two dangerous regimes hostile to the US.
Obama toppled two regimes who were our allies.(Egypt and Libya).
And this is NOT supposed to be Obama’s fault? Why not?
He inherited severe foreign policy problems.
Bull$hit he asked for the job and he can’t handle it because he’s clueless about foreign policy and everything else he’s out of his element andpeople pay the price for it and the liberals are to be thanked for it.
But . . . but that's different.
