Grand jury recommends DA take action in Euharlee police shooting [Nintendo Wii remote]

More than two months after Euharlee Police Cpl. Beth Gatney shot and killed 17-year-old Christopher Roupe while serving warrants, a Bartow County grand jury on Tuesday referred the case to District Attorney Rosemary Greene’s office.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate after the Feb. 14 shooting.

Gatney and a second officer were serving two warrants when Roupe answered the door with a handgun pointed at the officer, according to the GBI at the time.

The officer fired, hitting Roupe in the shoulder. A source said Roupe bled to death before emergency response personnel arrived.

The GBI’s report was sent to Greene’s office more than two weeks ago, and a Daily Tribune News open records request has been filed for that report.

Euharlee Police Chief Terry Harget on Tuesday afternoon said he was not familiar with the grand jury decision and declined to comment.

According to a press release from Greene’s office, grand jurors heard evidence and testimony over the course of Monday and Tuesday before determining the deadly force by Gatney was not authorized. The recommendation was made to have the DA take further action in the matter.

Greene said in the release that she will seek additional evidence to determine “what, if any, criminal violations may have occurred as a part of this case and will submit the findings for potential action by a future Grand Jury.”...

Her file also states she was investigated in 2003 for conduct unbecoming and was investigated again in 2009 for shooting at the suspect of a home invasion.....

This is the officer who shot the kid who came to the door holding a Nintendo Wii remote controller that she thought was a gun, and apparently the Georgia Bureau of Investigations does as well, but the Grand Jury knew the difference and did their job. Now will the DA???

Jessica, the author of this article, is so biased in favor of the female officer that she neglected to mention the Nintendo Wii remote controller that the kid was holding but she had to get the handgun pointed at the officer, according to the GBI at the time in her article.

Either they’re out to kill people and have the latest gear, or their so high-strung/delusional/paranoid that in theory they should be disqualified from law enforcement or military service.

The more of these articles I see posted here, the more I wonder what possessed me to want to be a cop years ago.

He may have been playing Call of Duty or something and that Wi controller was actually controlling a BAR and that cane might be a shotgun./sarc

Try that as a peasant and see what happens.

Well, there are Wii controllers that look exactly like guns.

Presumably, if the kid had one of those, the case wouldn’t have gone this far, though.

Years ago being a cop was a decent and honorable position. Sometimes it still is.

Stay tuned for the report from the GBI — we’re about to find out just how far they will go to protect a cop.

And the DA sounds like she is still not onboard with the Grand Jury.

In a statement Wednesday, the Mayor of Euharlee stated:

The mayor is not disappointed with the cop killing the kid.

On the contrary the mayor is disappointed with the grand jury finding that the cop should be prosecuted for killing the kid.

Correct! The mayor probably orgasm ed when the cop murdered the kid. Never forget politicians, lawyers, and cops all move in the same circles.

I can’t wait to see the GBI report — especially the part where they try to explain why they didn’t take any handguns or Wii remote controllers into evidence and just how they can issue any kind of report in this case without having done so.
