STURTEVANT, Wis. — Scott Walker is nothing if not consistent.
From his time as a local official in Milwaukee a decade ago to his explosive first year as governor of Wisconsin in 2011, Mr. Walker, a Republican, has deviated little from a platform to spend less, tax less and rein in the power of public sector unions.
Again and again, Mr. Walker has shown a rare aptitude for recognizing and seizing ripe political opportunities, and he has advanced himself in ways that have him being mentioned with Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, Gov. John R. Kasich of Ohio and former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida as possible Republican contenders for the presidency in 2016.
Mr. Walker flew to Las Vegas last month to appear beside other potential rivals to woo wealthy conservative donors like Sheldon Adelson. And he recently published a memoir, “Unintimidated: A Governor’s Story and a Nation’s Challenge” — more the pattern of someone building a national name than a governor simply seeking four more years.
Bucking history in a state known for the early-20th-century progressivism of Robert M. La Follette Sr., Mr. Walker appeared in the capital, Madison, three years ago as a blunt advocate of smaller government. Storms of protest greeted his move to roll back collective bargaining rights for most public-sector unions.
That he survived a 2012 recall election over those union policies only solidified his power and enhanced his political credentials across Wisconsin and beyond.
At 46, the fresh-faced Mr. Walker suddenly is on the national stage, an achievement that actually took more than 20 years. His advocates credit him for an improved business climate, a tuition freeze in the state university system and a jobless rate that has fallen to 5.9 percent from 7.8 percent.

Back in 2009 I attended a speech in Milwaukee by Sarah Palin on behalf of Wisconsin Right to Life. I was seated next to a stranger from Milwaukee County when County Executive Scott Walker entered the room and everyone stood and applauded for quite some length of time.
The lady next to me was not pleased. “What are we going to do, after he leaves?” she whined, because he was certain to be elected Governor, given the crowd’s reaction.
Well, now I know how she felt, and what she meant. Wisconsin needs Walker for another full term, plus. I’d vote for him for President in a minute, but I’d rather not. It’s so hard to share a good thing.
Well, I’m off to the Ozaukee County Lincoln Day Brunch where we’ll meet all of the candidates running in upcoming elections.
If the NYT, one of the Democratic Party media organs, takes notice of you then it means you’re a threat to them and will be taken seriously. That said, I’ve noticed a few Freepers have posted that Walker is soft on immigration. If that’s the case he’s going to have a tough time garnering votes with the base. Oh hell, all of them including Cruz is going to have a tough time convincing us they’re not going to sellout on that issue.
Walker is NOT soft on immigration. Like everyone with any sense, he is hard on ILLEGAL immigration and accepts LEGAL immigration. The two should not be confused.

That investigation exposed the insensitive email exchanges among his aides, like this chain email forwarded by a former chief of staff in the county office: “I can handle being a black, disabled, one-armed, drug-addicted, Jewish homosexual on a pacemaker who is H.I.V.-positive, bald, orphaned, unemployed, lives in a slum, and has a Mexican boyfriend, but please, Oh dear God, please don’t tell me I’m a Democrat!”

Thank you for the info. I thought he might have been one of those Jeb Bush types who advocate amnesty.
Well he’s not doing a whole lot to get rid of the illegals in his own state is he? Although I am grateful for the way he’s done most things in Wisconsin, he will wilt under pressure because he makes some baffling choices when something unexpected happens to him. I don’t consider him a good candidate for 2016.

I enthusiastically support his rise. I ask him to please bring back American jobs.
We current have sent far too many jobs to the country now growing, as the number two military budget in the world: China.
We run a MASSIVE trade deficit with them. 440 billion in current American imports (last year), to 122 billion in American exports.
A trade deficit of 318 billion dollars. Every single year.
We need those jobs here.

Thanks. I was sure I had seen some statements attributed to him about immigration that made him less than stellar on the issue. Either way I think the GOP just nailed their own coffin shut if they go ahead with the amnesty in August. I’m so discouraged now for the future of our country. Even if all of us split off into out own political party we can’t generate enough support to defeat the Demopublicans.
I think Walker could do good things to right this country. I recently heard he is taking classes to finish up is undergraduate degree. Big Media will have a field day with this if it is true. Only IVY LEAGUERS can be President, don’t you know?? He will need a boatload of support if he goes National in his political career. I cannot source the ‘taking classes’ comment. I think I heard it on the radio.
We have lots of good conservatives in WI that could keep Walker’s reforms going; we need him in DC to clean up that mess. That is his talent; cleaning up after the Dims.

The country needs him too. He is proving everyday that he is the kind of leader we need.
Please delete Kasich from that list. I had high hopes for John when he became Governor, but he’s to quick and willing to compromise. He caved on numerous issues. He has those weird facial mannerisms when he’s speaking, and the media would make mincemeat of him in no time. IMHO.
I failed to ask for Jeb’s removal, too. Please Dear God; Not another half-hearted Bush....especially one with a bed partner who constantly hammers him with reasons for promoting amnesty for her fellow Chicanos.
