Rick Perry Takes A Victory Lap After Texas Takes Toyota From California

Texas Gov. Rick Perry thinks Texas' "employer-friendly combination of low taxes, fair courts, smart regulations, and world-class workforce" are responsible for Toyota's decision to move its sales headquarters from California to the Lone Star State.

"Over the past decade, Texas and Toyota have developed a strong partnership that has resulted in good-paying jobs for thousands of Texans," Perry said in a statement about the automakers move Monday. "Toyota understands that Texas’ employer-friendly combination of low taxes, fair courts, smart regulations and world-class workforce can help businesses of any size succeed and thrive. We’re proud that both the Tundra and Tacoma bear the words ‘Made in Texas,’ and we’re excited our state will be the nexus for Toyota’s North American operations moving forward."

Toyota already has manufacturing facilities in Texas. Perry's office said the Texas Enterprise Fund offered Toyota a $40 million investment for moving its sales headquarters, which are expected to employ about 4,000 people.

TEF was created in 2003 to give companies incentives to bring jobs and investments to Texas. Perry's office said the Toyota project would be "one of the largest job creation projects in TEF history" when it is completed. The TEF investment is contingent on the finalization of contracts as well as a local incentive agreement.

They are leaving from my town of Torrance. Torrance is a pretty good city but I think Calibrown laws and regs have pushed them over the edge. See ya Toyota.

I’ve been impressed with how quickly State Farm is getting their buildings up on the other side of town from the Toyota site.

“We have too many people, beyond too many of the wrong kind of people. Having our population diminish would be a good thing.”

So the answer is to chase off the producers/workers? I lived in Cal during the time it was the golden years IMO, the 70’s. The demise came suddenly or perhaps the system just became over loaded in a crescendo. The virtual open borders of the 80s, since then seemingly on a rocket trajectory, has destroyed the place. Now the left wing loons are firmly in command, girded by abhorrently rich benefactors, and a virtual eden has been turned into hell.

Well, it seems to me that like it or not, sensible businesses, along with many of their employees, are leaving California. Currently, the RATS are in charge big time, although if a few more of them are indicted, that may change. We are retired and we will remain irrespective of the political situation because we like it here and our remaining real estate interests are here (Prop 13 allows us to remain in our home). To my mind, the only way that the RATs will be unseated will be for them to be unable to continue their economic war on the state’s producers. We see it every day here. Government fees for “services” are growing exponentially. Examples” Raise the sales tax 1%. NO you’ve added 10% to the existing tax. Bridge tolls have gone from $.25 to $6.00. State fee for “inspecting an elevator” went from $110. per year to $220. since the downturn, and they don’t come annually any more. That can’t continue forever. So for large businesses (like Toyota) to leave sooner rather than later, will serve to take away their purse. The added benefit will be to relieve the pressure on all segments of our infrastructure. Once the economy here collapses (or at least contracts substantially) the RATs will loose their ability to continue to offer the free lunch and perhaps the people will finally turn them out of office.

I hope it works out for you. I got out when they began trying to tax the pensions earned in Ca irrespective of where you lived at that time. I know why you like it, it is a beautiful place and perhaps this too shall pass is the hopeful salvation.

That is no longer the case. In fact a classmate of my wife’s was a member of the Nevada State Legislature when they got that unconstitutional law overturned. Nevada had a “vested interest” because a lot of retired Californians go to Nevada to retire.
