Immigration group’s video: How would the average American do on the U.S. naturalization test?

Via TheBlaze, watch this and remember that these are the people who decide elections. Not you, not the lefties you see on Twitter breathing into paper bags about Thomas Piketty. It’s these people, the proverbial low-information voters, who somehow can’t identify a guy who’s been vice president for five years now and are still trying to master this whole legislative-executive-judicial thing. They’re the swing voters in 2016. Now try to sleep soundly tonight — if you dare.

But first, explain to me what the point of this is. It can’t be … this, can it?

Tony Hernandez, co-founder of the Immigrant Archive Project, told TheBlaze Monday that his group aimed to debunk the “misconception that it’s relatively easy [for immigrants] to get their citizenship.”

“We came to the understanding that the naturalization test is the easiest hurdle for immigrants,” he said. “And we thought it could shed some light on the experience to quiz Americans.”

This is like asking random men-on-the-street to solve for x in (x + 2)/2 = 5, then pronouncing it a hard problem because 40-50 percent of the people interviewed will inevitably scratch their heads and pronounce themselves stumped. It’s not a hard problem; an intelligent nine-year-old could solve it with an hour of tutoring on algebra. It’s really not a hard problem if you know the question’s coming and have been studying for it using the handy study sheet that the federal government makes publicly available on its naturalization website. The idea here, I suppose, is to show that it’s unfair to require an immigrant to master basic knowledge to gain citizenship that adult Americans aren’t required to know, but (a) the immigrant’s free to forget it the day after the test, just like ol’ Joe Sixpack did in school many years ago, and (b) most Americans are required to know this at some point as kids, not as the price of citizenship but as the price of advancing to the next grade. The real takeaway from the clip, besides the evergreen lesson that Americans are dumb, is that some immigration advocates object to placing even the smallest, most pro forma demands upon aspiring citizens before granting them full privileges. Something to bear in mind as Congress oozes towards compromise on immigration reform.

And no, contra the host here, George Washington didn’t sign the Declaration of Independence.

My mother in law, who didn't speak a syllable of English, passed her citizenship test.

She was assigned a "tutor".

The whole process has become a hugh joke.

EVERYONE should have to pass this test to gain their citizenship, not just immigrants. If they fail they’ll be non-voting, non-jury serving residents, just like legal immigrants who haven’t gained their citizenship.

How stoopit do you have to be and not be able to pass the citizenship test?

This just might be a legitimate issue for those who attempt to gain US citizenship through the legally established method. To any "advocates" supporting amnesty for our 30 million Mexican invaders who try to use this to advance their cause I say FORNICATE YOU!

I think that you should be required to serve in the military and get an honorable discharge before you can be a citizen, vote, or hold public office.

I am a United States Citizen by Birth.

I do not need to prove myself to Lawbreakers, period.

I don’t care if they score 100% on a test. Illegal Invaders are Illegal Invaders and should be treated accordingly.

We are a Nation of Laws, or were.

My wife passed it, and I could too, EASILY.

Most Americans probably could not.

And be a landowner.

I helped a friend from Italy prepare for his citiznship test. He was very interested in the subjects and we always had in-depth discussions. He said that when he discussed with American friends what he had studied, they often did not have a clue what he was talking about.

That sounds pretty series.

Well, I can sneak around and night and vote the way I’m told for amnesty, so I think I can pass that test.

List of all 100 questions in the pool: http://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/study-test/study-materials-civics-test/100-civics-questions-and-answers-mp3-audio-english-version

The person tested gets ten them and has to answer six correctly.

This site gives a multiple choice sample test of 25 questions, but the real test is not multiple choice. I took it and got all 25 right.

Hmmm. The message I got from the video was different. I saw it as just another argument that immigrants are here to do the jobs Americans just won’t do.

In this case, pass the naturalization test.

What i think is funny is that when they say the naturalization test is the “easy” part, they are serious, because they claim that the “hard” part is living here 5 years. Of course, THAT part all the americans have managed to pull off pretty easily.

I took an online citizenship test. It had an error. It asked “what did the emancipation proclamation do” and the answer was “freed the slaves.”

I got 100% anyway. It wasn’t hard. It sometimes amazes me how stupid the average person is, or more correctly how blissfully ignorant they are, and how ignorant they are of how ignorant they are.

I took it and got all 25 right.

I got 24 of 25 correct. Missed the question on the Federalist Papers. One question that stood out for me..."name one state that borders Mexico".A bit Latino-centric it seems to me. More fitting to ask "name one state that borders Canada" or,better still,"name one state that borders Russia".

That puts Jeffrey Dahmer in, but leaves me out in the cold.

Drunk and at 2:50 in the AM, I got 10 out of 10. I worked with my mother when she took her test. It is pathetically easy.
And Washington was in New York City in July 1776, not Philadelphia.
