Roughly 50 Rutgers University students staged a sit-in at a school administration building in New Brunswick on Monday...The sit-in was one of the largest in Rutgers' history

There must be a misprint in here, somewhere. 50? 50! This is the best they can do? This sounds as emphatic as a NOW rally or an MSNBC audience.

If they had had 51 would the administration have surrendered?

“50! This is the best they can do?”

When I was in school 25 years ago a lot of the students were there for learning; 99.9% didn’t care about the cause du jour. As Rutgers imports a lot of foreign students, that figure is probably at 100% (the 50 “students” were probably faculty). Occasionally, some 60s holdout would show up with a megaphone trying to rally interest in some nonsense or other; they were routinely ignored. College rallies in the 60s were big because many people were there just to escape the draft (and since the war and draft ended many of those schools have shrunk); nowadays in this economy those that want four more years of high school find a cheaper way to live them out...
