Basically, the government forced people - at the point of the IRS gun - to spend their money on insurance, resulting in a federally-mandated spending surge in the healthcare arena.
Everything else is essentially stagnant or shrinking. This may be (at least partially) due to the fact that, when youre forced to drop cash on your new, improved, and far more expensive policy, you have less discretionary cash to spend elsewhere.
Thats particularly true in lower and middle class families - the very people the ACA was supposed to help the most.

GDP needs to exclude G’ovt.
Being forced by law to purchase a product or service from private companies doesn’t sound like free market capitalism to me.
Treason, pure and simple. Take them out and shoot them.
Yep and a piece of steel to force it down
Ummmmm no
Or perhaps if people had the additional $600 to $1200 a month they would have saved without obamacare and it sky high deductibles and monthly rates, they would have injected it back into the economy instead of the government's pocket.
Whoever made this baseless assessment is an economic moron.
The firearms industry has done a heck of a lot more than the forced spending on ObamaCare to keep the economy afloat.
This topic is obviously hate speech, report to the nearest gulag.
The firearms and energy industries are keeping us somewhat afloat.
shows just how dishonest the statistical GDP can be - EVERYTHING from more garbage (and thus more garbage collection) to more gambling to more cigarettes to more of any form of consumption, on borrowed money or not, adds to the statistical GDP; and what has the expansion of federal spending been based on? - more borrowing, thus all growth under Obama has been phony
Without the forced spending, people would have bought other things - the things they actually wanted - and the economy would have grown with real jobs. You can’t have a pure service economy, even though ObamaCare is driving us in that direction, without a steady increase in poverty.
But that would make Obama look bad and government incompitent. We can’t have that now.......
