Spiegel is toilet paper. There was never any agreement that NATO would refuse former Soviet-bloc states access to NATO if they wanted it. Frankly, we should have let Patton drive his tanks into Moscow when we had the chance. Would have saved a lot of lives and kept us from decades of Soviet subversion, the fruits of which we are reaping today.
