A nifty catch by the Libertarian Republic. I used to think AF was a cautionary tale about leftists exploiting the aspiration of equality to amass power over people, but now that I re-read the final line, I see her point: The creatures outside looked from pig to Koch, and from Koch to pig, and from pig to Koch: but already it was impossible to say which was which.
Credit where its due. It takes brass balls to give Orwell himself full Orwellian treatment. Well done, MSNBC.
One tiny criticism, though. If youre going to toast Thomas Piketty and the looming demise of income inequality, do it with a $16 cocktail like respectable intellectuals do.
Yeah, yeah and Lennon’s Imagine was a tribute to capitalism and Christianity. I don’t know what’s worse, that liberals are this freaking stupid, or that they think we are!
All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.
$40 million tab for Obama-Biden vacations.
$2.9 million for two Obama 2014 golf outings alone.
The funny thing is Orwell was a socialist and he was critiquing communist excess..the left could still claim Orwell IF they would allow for criticism inside their own movement..the more they twist the book they prove the book true..
The truth is in her youth, my mother was a socialist progressive politically she was a very well read idealist.
But in the lates 30s with the start of war Europe she saw the lie the left was with things like the USSR invasion of Finland and the Hitler, Stalin pact.
If you’re thinking that Animal Farm was directed towards a specific political persuasion then you miss the point entirely.
It’s a generalization about humans and human psychology. As such, both sides can claim it’s about the other when in fact it’s about all of them. Liberal, Conservative, Theist and Atheist, any given categorical thinking as it’s applied towards the human condition.
Best contemplated while listening to Pink Floyd’s ‘Us’.

Well not quite. It is of course about psychological manipulation. But Orwell was an anti-collectivist, and that political aspect is very much a part of Animal Farm as well.
I like my meaning and I’m sticking with it. Yours fits too, but mine has a higher META level.
lol.
REALLY? What literature professor or expert on Orwell came on their base cable channel and spewed that lie?
Orwell became disillusioned after fighting for the anarchists in Spain’s Civil War; in 1937, in a “civil war within a civil war”, the Communists killed many of the anarchists on their own side (including their leader). After that, many on the Communists side lost all stomach for the fight; while the war dragged on until early 1939 there was no longer any hope for victory. Unlike the battle for Madrid, when the Nationalists reached Barcelona (the center of leftist thought) it fell without a fight.
“REALLY? What literature professor or expert on Orwell came on their base cable channel and spewed that lie?”
A smart propagandaist who realized every criticism we’ve had of totalitarian regimes in the past could be applied to this administration. Surveillance of citizens? Suppression of religion? Redistribution of wealth? You could cast the Democrats in the role of the Communists or Nazis in any propaganda film from the prior century.
Actually Occupy Wall Street was a real life example of Animal Farm. They advertised it as some uprising of the “common people” against of the the wealthy and elite folks who supposedly run everything. The reality was the Occupy movement itself ended up with more a caste system than the actual society that it was opposed to.
On one end, you had the people sleeping in tents, unshowered, and playing in drum circles all day while the leaders of the movement who had access to the fundraising money slept in 5 star hotels and held their planning meetings in upscale office buildings.
Believe it or not, Jon Stewart did a good job of exposing this.
When you have Carney saying that an email about Benghazi is not an email about Benghazi, you have your answer.
I think more people are commenting and viewing this here then heard it on MSNBC.
