U.S. General: we should have done more?

At a hearing before the House Oversight Committee on Thursday, now-retired Brig. Gen. Robert Lovell contradicted another widely-made Obama administration claim that nothing more could have been done to attempt a rescue while the attacks were underway.

Lovell, who was deputy director for intelligence at Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany testified that the U.S. should have done more but, in some respects, didn’t even try.

“The point is we should have tried," said Lovell. As another saying goes, ‘Always move to the sound of the guns.’”

Lovell said that the State Department was calling the shots in the military during the attacks and that “there was a lot of waiting for State Department for what it was that they wanted” while the military operations centers was in “desperation…to be able to do something to save people’s lives.” “Did they ever tell you to go to Benghazi?” Rep. Chaffetz asked.

“No sir.”

Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen and other military officials, as well as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Buck McKeon (R-Calif), have stated that they are satisfied that nothing more could have been done to mount a rescue.

Thursday, White House spokesman Carney again accused Republicans of waging a political battle without substance.

"What we have seen since hours after the attack...beginning with a statement by the Republican nominee for president, is an attempt by Republicans to politicize a tragedy.”

Yes, all US citizens need to know that the administration will rescue them if needed

Does anyone think for one minute that obama would have gone to Grenada to rescue American medical students?

He wouldn’t have

One of the reasons I have turned down certain educational trips for my kids, no confidence that if there were trouble, the administration would go rescue them.

Politicize a tragedy???

The tragedy happened because these aholes were reacting politically and not responsibility. The only thing they cared about was political cover.

Since when does the State Dept give orders to the military?

All these people keep saying the same thing: we were kept waiting...we were told not to intervene. Somebody needs to start spilling some real names and leaking some emails and texts.

This is a tragedy alright,,,a traitorous tragedy.

"What we have seen since hours after the attack...beginning with a statement by the Republican nominee for president, is an attempt by Republicans to politicize a tragedy.”

Infuriating. This is the same old, same old from the liberal Left's playbook ... and they get away with it because the media in this country are slaves, completely owned and controlled by the DNC .... and the Speaker of the House and the Minority Leader of the Senate are too afraid to wage a fight to call it out.

"When the scandal involves a democRAT, the story is about how the GOP is "politicizing" the scandal for their own purposes. When the scandal involves the GOP, the story is all about the scandal 24/7."

And disgraceful candycrowley took it to a level of truly affecting the 2012 presidential election. Real leadership of an opposition party would point this out over and over.

What a bunch inexperienced twits. It’s embarrassing to have these people represent us on the world stage. Our enemies must be licking their chops.

Some of those military retirees may be shocked in the near future to learn it was not worth sitting aloof waiting out the clock. Those retirement checks may not come for very long, or will be next to worthless.

Our enemies must be licking their chops.

Even through our drastically filtered media, it's evident they are. And they are legion.

Translation: "we did this for political reasons, the opposition called us on it, so they're the ones playing politics".

Since when does the Joint Chiefs allow the State Dept. to command the military? They should be tried for treason!

US Ambassadors are the highest ranking official in their assigned country. Over military officials. Worldwide.

The “ambassador” was dead or missing, at least.
