For the purpose of this conversation, I have narrowed the focus to the ex-cops who stood with Bundy, and I want to keep it from drifting from there.
"My first suspicion is they are infiltrators looking for Intel. Maybe after associating with them for a year or two, I might let them get close to me."
Bundy did not have time to wait a year or two. The accounts were that the situation was tense, and if one shot were fired then a LOT of shots would have been fired. This would not have been a good spot to be in for someone collecting intel. Regardless, because you require a year or two to determine trustworthiness, it must conclude that you believe the ex-cops were still the bad guys.
In the day when if you misspeak to an FBI Agent, you can be charged with a crime. I am very leery around all cops, ex-cops , G-men and or LEO’s of any sort. They are all legally allowed to misrepresent who they are and what their purpose is. Anyone who isn’t leery around them is, IMO, a sucker waiting to get bit.
