I wouldn't be so sure of that. There is a considerable amount of propoganda being spread by certain groups (left as well as right curiously enough) to the effect that UKIP are just disaffected tories and support for them will split the right wing vote, thus allowing Labour in.

This is, at the least, a very London/southern centric view of things. The fact is that in the northern and midland counties UKIP members are more likely to be disaffected Labourites or even liberals. In large stretches of the country UKIP is now effectively the main opposition to the ruling Labour councils, and certainly the only party that has any chance of kicking them out of office. Most of the socialist councillors are lazy and arrogant. They think they have some god given right to office in these places on the basis that they are "working-class", and therefore they have done nothing for them for years. They are going, I believe, to get a very big surprise over the next few election cycles in the UK.

Well,I'm surely in over my head when discussing British politics with a Brit. You're a whole lot closer to it than am I.But much of what *I've* seen of Farage on the floor of the European Parliament (and I've seen a lot of him on youtube) seems to be the type of thing that would appeal much more to people more conservative (small “c”) than to what I assume to be the typical Labour supporter. It's my understanding, right or wrong, that the farther north you go in Britain the more Labour supporters you'll find (miners, factory workers, etc).
But,like I said, you're closer to it than I am...however,my assmptions are based on the conventional wisdom we hear here in The Colonies.
