NATO has outlived its purpose, which was to defend Western Europe from Soviet invasion. Without that founding purpose since the early 1990s, NATO has embarked upon a rapid expansion to the borders of Russia and is now attempting to spread to Russia's southern flank along the Black Sea. In any historical context this is a provocative and threatening move, and a precursor to war. And no matter how likely or unlikely that war might seem at a given moment, nations must plan their defenses for an uncertain future.

Admission of additional NATO treaty members has only increased the likelihood of unintentional war. Why have we committed American sons and treasure to war on behalf of Slovenia or Bulgaria or Romania? Nothing that can happen in any of those countries will affect our national security, but those nations may now drag us into war over disputes in which we have absolutely no interest. NATO must be disbanded before its treaty drags us into a war that we do not want to fight and should not have to fight.

This permanent war treaty -- which lingers on without its original purpose -- is exactly what George Washington warned against in his Farewell Address. And it was Washington's wisdom which Thomas Jefferson confirmed when he declared "peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none." We would do well to revisit our founders' wise words in these dangerous times.

It looks like NATO is still needed.

I’m not sure how far Nato can go with Ukraine as they do not have the equipment nor manpower to take on ‘another war’....and.... protect the Baltic Nations and others in the area.

Further Ukraines ability to communicate between their military is all but obsolete....thus the problems they have in communicating without the world knowing what they are doing.

At the onset of this uprising, their Commanders said there was no way they could handle a war in their country for the vast number of years the Kiev Government failed to maintain the military, let alone upgrade anything.

Further Regarding Nato....the Member countries failed to alot the mandatory requirement of each nation to expand their military according to their agreements with becoming a Nato member....so the nations themselves cannot protect themselves. So they’re already depending on US Military to do so........

...In the past many countries also refused to send troops in other border issues or threats of war... which according to their agreements shouldn’t have been a choice as all were required to alot their troops.

Nato leadership itself failed to “ride” these nations to act on the agreements, so they’ve been left twiddling their fingers on what to do about the entire situation in Ukraine. Their all shooting from the hip..

Right now the USA is the primary actor in NAto in these countries, and it was agreed that America had to do more because they cannot.
