During a discussion about the merits of the death penalty on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos, conservative commentator Laura Ingraham had some strong words about the “culture of death” in America surrounding abortion in this country.
Agreeing with PBS’ Cokie Roberts, Ingraham remarked “But my heart is with the victims of abortion and of the death penalty. Because Cokie is right. A culture of life must be respected, but across the board.”

I read that his victim suffered greatly, and was actually buried alive, to die a slow and agony-filled death. If he “suffered” while he died, oh well.

Yep, raped, robbed, shot in the face and buried alive. Nineteen years old. And we are supposed to feel bad that they “botched” this guy’s execution.
He should have been buried alive. That would have been justice.

All things being equal, you would be correct. However, things are not equal. Our criminal justice system in this country is so corrupt and dishonest that any God fearing Christian can't help but wonder if the authorities can be trusted with the taking of a life.....any life.
Just look at some of the stories we see and hear about pertaining to corrupt cops, dishonest lawyers, and judges who see everything through an ideological prism. It's corrupt from the top down and bottom up. Therefore, I myself cannot support the death penalty.

She is the daughter of Hale Boggs, who was the Louisiana Democrat US House of Representatives Majority Leader in the ‘60s. Husband Steven Roberts original name was something like Rosgow, IIRC.

Why would a lesbian need an abortion?
For Catholics, the argument not to permit the deliberate killing of unborn children is doctrinal, having to do with the intrinsic evil of the act. Intentional abortion can never be tolerated. To permit it in law is to undermine the basis for any legitimate legal system or government.
Conversely, the argument not to put to death certain offenders is prudential. The Church explicitly teaches that the state has an inherent right to wield the sword against the offender. In recent decades, the prudential judgment of popes (and many bishops) has been that the death penalty is no longer needed in most of the world. As a Catholic, I disagree with that view.
However, another prudential concern about the death penalty is whether a particular state is trustworthy to employ this sanction. I think it’s not altogether too difficult to make out a case that the federal and state governments of the United States are not sufficiently trustworthy in this regard.
It always amazes me. There a few people in any forum that would be best advised to not comment so that others would bear witness to stupidity.
