That shabby defense of Putin’s invaders doesn’t work for a wide variety of reasons. The command and control communications between the Russian soldiers in the Ukraine and the senior officers in Russia have been intercepted and recorded by the Ukrainian SBU security services, the U.S. signals intelligence, and the intelligence services of other nations.
A number of the Russian citizens have been captured along with their Russian acquired weaponry, documents, and identity papers.
The Little Green Men are equipped with certain Kalashnikov Series 100 assault rifles which have only been purchased for the Russian armed forces in 2014 in many cases or September 2013 in other cases. These very recent Kalashnikov arms have not been available to any Ukrainian armed forces, police forces, or civilians. The arms are too new.
Added to many additional forms of evidence of the Russian soldiers in the Ukraine is the previous way in which Putin first denied the Little Green men in the Crimea were Russian soldiers and then acknowledged and celebrated the presence of the Russian soldiers after the Russian capture and annexation of the Crimea was secured. Putin lied before, and now the overwhelming evidence indicates Putin has lied now as well.

It is just a matter of time before the newspaper is taken over by a Putin controlled entity with an offer that cannot be refused or just outright closed by order of Putin. Like cancer state oppression is insidious. It starts unnoticed and grows slowly until at some point it is undeniable and a mortal threat to its host.

Contrary to popular belief, Russia is ridden with anti-government, both “right-wing” and leftist propaganda.
True, you won’t see it from major news sources (take US alphabet medias as example which aren’t that critical of Obama), but second rate cable channels and papers are full of it.
Some tabloids are featuring ideas that Putin is a CIA agent or a space alien, plotting with muslims against Russians.

It’s the tradeoff between the political cover of having an opposition publication as a token lip service to journalistic freedom versus the point in time when the regime no longer sees further reason to maintain the façade of a tolerant government. Time is growing short for opposition journalism and publishing in Russia.
