“If I drive my can drunk and kill you and your entire family, is it just an accident bob? “

Yep, still is, at least by the English definition of “accident”. I’m sorry that you’re taking the LIBERAL approach and redefining words, but this IS the definition of accident, and I prefer to stick with real, rather than made-up, definitions:

“an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury.”

Unless you can explain to my why the killing was intentional, then I will continue to state that you DO NOT respect our language.

Pointing a gun at someone and pulling the trigger is not an accident - every action was done on purpose

OMG....wowza...

If you think this guy intentionally pointing a weapon at that kids head was somehow an accident, you haven't a clue.

I’m just trying to understand the motive for killing him. Maybe you can tell me then. I’m tired of arguing with that Bloomberg type.

Tell the guy working for dial an argument, the motive was absolute stupidity and total intentional neglect.

I do not believe that “I did not think the gun was loaded when I pointed it at that child and pulled the trigger” should be an affirmative defense.

If it is, every gang thug in the country will say the same thing when they shoot kids.

It’s not a good defense. We’re not talking about gang bangers here though, we’re talking about a kid’s uncle. A family accident as dumb as it was for it to happen.

I realize that the guy who shot the kid will be ruined for the rest of his life, but what an idiot.

I carry. I carry ALL the time. My kids know I have rifles but they have never seen any of my handguns. My grandchildren don't even know I have guns. Until I take them out shooting after learning about guns they won't.

I carry loaded and chambered but I would never show the gun to a kid. When I show any of my guns to friends that also carry I unload and unchamber and lock the slide open and STILL treat it as loaded.

A gun is only as safe as the operator.

I recommend to just about everyone:
1. Conceal carry
2. get a gun light enough and small enough that you won't mind carrying.
3. Once you carry don't ever not carry, that is when you will be needed.
4. Practice, practice, practice. It may be overkill but I don't like to go more than two weeks without practice.
5. Carry personal defense rounds, (Hollow Points), for safety. Never let a bullet go through anything to hit someone else.
6. Get a gun safe.

I don't normally have kids around but even when I don't I keep my carry gun up high on closet shelf when I go to bed. I'm not dressed in the morning until I have my gun on. I have respectful fear of my gun but I would have more fear without it.

Guns like gasoline, cars, power tools and many other things are potentially killers and deserve a lot of respect.

“In the minute I was gone my friend had reloaded his gun with ammo from the box and left the original 6 on the table. I was never again tempted to handle a gun without making sure it was unloaded every time it left my hand.”

Wow! Glad you didn’t learn that lesson the hard way! (As in having to buy a new water tank and drywall repair!)

Yes that near miss had a big impact on me. But at least my mistake wouldn’t have killed anyone. That typically requires breaking 2 or more of the rules simultaneously, like the bozo in the article.
