From the article...

"“I don’t blame them for doing what they did,” Ashleigh’s mother, Tracy Webb said about the shooting. “It’s not right to break in and to burglarize people’s homes. No, it’s not. But at the same time, a life has been lost. A life has been taken. I’m sure he and a friend, Michael Sambrano, were doing what they thought they needed to do to survive.”

Search his 'girlfriend's' and her mother's home for stolen property.

Bet you anything something will turn up.

Reason why I'm so certain of this is that the last time I read a story about some robbers shot to death by a homeowner during a break-in, the media sympathetically covered the weeping family members who proclaimed "He was ['a good boy', 'turning his life around', 'thinking of going back to get his GED', 'never hurt anyone', 'etc.']" and how difficult it was going to be without the deceased family member, and so on...

Later on it turned out that a search warrant of the family's property on an unrelated charge led police to finding lots of stolen property that the family was supporting themselves with up by fencing up until the point that their best wage-earning burglar got shot and killed.
