The guy is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry. It doesn’t sound like he’s very far up in the academic heirarchy. How would he have the right to ban (or permit) anything that anyone might say?

So, if they just decided to thank Jesus at the end of their speech and walk away, what would happen? Take his degree away? Unlikely. Throw him out? It would embarrass the school and show everyone how ridiculous they are.
