Fifth District Congresswoman Susan Brooks says the immigration reform plan unveiled this week by a bipartisan group of senators represents an encouraging first step toward solving one of the nation's thorniest problems.
Brooks praises the so-called Gang of Eight for requiring that the nation's borders be secured first, and for placing illegal immigrants at the back of the line for citizenship, behind those who have entered the country legally.

Any time I hear about a bunch of congress critters or senators referred to as a gang I know the citizens just got screwed.
“requiring that the nation’s borders be secured first, and for placing illegal immigrants at the back of the line for citizenship, behind those who have entered the country legally.”
And how many times has this promise been made before?
Talk is cheap. The Democratic Party has no interest in securing the borders because they see an endless supply of voters and the potential for millions of dues-paying union members. The majority of the GOP won’t do anything because they’re afraid of pushing the already Democratic-heavy Mexican voting bloc further into Democratic arms.
Personally, I’d like to see an immigration bill that copies Mexico’s own immigration policy. (Yes, I know, CNN’s Rueben whatshisface pooh-poohs that idea. All the better reason to support it!)
Yo Brooksy! How about you tell us WHY this immigration bull**** is so hot with you politicians right now. Nobody else can tell me. Lookin’ for a new pool boy? Senorita? What?
Well, WHAT are we waiting for?
If everyone agrees we have to secure the border FIRST, then let’s secure the border NOW, using a simple NON-COMPREHENSIVE bill.
Then, in a few years, if the border really HAS been secured, we can discuss what it should take to turn an illegal immigrant into an American.
