I didn't read it but a quick Google search turned up this passage:

“’Yeah,’ he groaned, and he pushed her thighs apart. And then suddenly Matt was inside her, pumping her so hard that she scooted backward on the carpet, burning the backs of her legs.”

I'd say that's pretty racy for an assigned school reading.

Whoa. Not good. Definitely on the pornographic side (that is, I can’t imagine that it advances the story in any way and it is certainly unnecessary).

This started long ago. My kids went to California public schools in the 1980s because we lived in a place that had no Catholic school (except for a girls’ HS that had had a few problems, shall we say). These depressing, dreary “teen problem” books were being already being introduced way back then. My daughters were being presented with books about girls being molested by their drunken fathers and my son was supposed to read books about boys who were gang members.
