They could do like they do here in North Carolina where you get taxed on your car EVERY YEAR based on its estimated value as long as you have it (or many). IN ADDITION to gas taxes, vehicle registration fees, inspection fees, state income tax, sales tax, property tax, etc. We would also have to pay a tax when we sell our house no matter how much equity we walk away with (based on actual sale price).

That is some serious taxing, but it is true also of my State of SD. It is just probably more affordable here. Our registration fees doubled about three years ago and are likely still cheaper than NC.

On a more upbeat note, Greeenville NC, Pitt Co. IIRC the birthplace of my mother who in her 93 years, never lost her southern accent having lived all over the world.

Yep, there's an annual property tax on vehicles here in Utah too.

I suppose it's based on this thinking:
1. You have a relatively new car,
2. so you must have a little money...
3. we want some of it.

There's also a sales tax on groceries.
