I’m so sick of “shelter in place”. How about ordering all personnel to “lock and load”?

You make a point but it has a fairly straigtforward answer.

Airmen rarely have a side arm when working on typical duties of maintenance, support for air operations or the like even in zones operating in support of combat operations, let alone a base in Deleware. There are armed protection forces for plane storage areas and flight-lines and air base security personell but that is a small percentage of the total force.

There are arms stored in armories for rifle and pistol qualification or issue arms for certain duties, but these aren’t in every duty station.

When there is an active-shooter, there is a good number of the airmen on base that do report and draw arms in support of the security team. If everyone runs all over grabbing weapons it can create more confusion because the active shooter is sometimes in uniform, real or from outside.

A base I am familiar with, shot and killed a car thief who was attempting to run a blockade, so they don’t have a problem once they are sure that they have the right threat identified.

"How about ordering all personnel to 'lock and load'?"

On an air base, that would certainly make many daily tasks interesting and "sheltering in place" probably the smartest thing to do (see hopping mad airmen wanting to divorce weapons after realization of one of the soldiers' burdens). Never heard "lockdown" or "shelter in place" on any post or base myself, but public affairs can be humorous with speech at times.

Isn't that the new military terminology for putting on a condom?

i hear ya...we have an entire military base cowering in place due to one 'suspicious' person being reported ???

arms are the business of the military, if they cant be trusted to defend themselves, then whats the point of them being there anyways ???

Im sure theres a local SWAT team gearing up to do the "hut hut" and save those poor troops...
