Chief of Staff Benny Gantz is being careful of voicing the facts publicly, but Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon has stepped up to the plate and told the truth of reality for him.
“The money is gone. The defense apparatus is in crisis, and we need to loosen up the defense budget now,” Ya’alon said.

Didn’t Israel find a metric sh!t ton of natural gas, reportedly worth somewhere in the area of 3 trillion? I know a few European countries was wish to depart from Soviet (yeah, I said it) dependency.
Well, it’s long been known that Israel Defense Forces don’t actually need the manpower from their universal draft.
Did they really think that hijacking money from actual defense in order to force some kind of social integration wasn’t going to have negative consequences?
The real purpose of the draft is to ensure that EVERY Israeli, after his or her term of enlistment is over, has the skills to defend their homes, families, and neighborhoods, should any Muslim forces get past the regular IDF.
And I’m sure there isn’t any cheaper way to do that.
Eliminate the enemy ( or at least eliminate his massive arsenal) and then all you gotta do is keep a sharp eye out that he never again is permitted to regroup and rearm. Much cheaper too. But the first thing the enemy does after Israel succeeds In Turning back another enemy attack, is to rearm and regroup. While Israel just sits there watching — doing nothing to prevent it. Stupid, Israel, stupid. There, I said it. It hurts to be critical but it’s an obvious problem and one Israel can remedy.

You could do that with a few weekends and an annual follow up course for a week. It’s not efficient as currently done. It’s a waste of economic resources and a throwback to Israel’s socialist origins. How about a real 2nd Amendment in Israel as well?
Please do NOT even THINK of going to the US or the IMF for a bailout. Like sticking an “own me” sign on our back. With a vibrant economy and no wars or intifadas presently at boiling point, how did they screw this up?
