According to Brussels based think-tank Breugel, the EU could replace all of the gas it receives from the EU within the year. It would be a significant challenge, but not impossible, the report wrote.
EU imported 130 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia in 2013, with some significant changes in its energy policy, such volume could be replaced by gas from other sources.
Breugel proposes increasing gas imports from North Africa and Norway, using and importing more LNG, switching energy consumption for natural gas to other fuels are a number of solutions the think-tank proposes. EU countries, especially the Netherlands could also increase their own production of gas.
The report also proposes storing some of the EU gas in the west-Ukrainian storages during summer when the fuel consumption in lower than during the winter months.

PM Tusk believes that a common EU negotiating strategy on gas purchases would be the best and most efficient way of helping Europe become free of any Russian influence on gas deliveries to the 28-nation bloc.

So, once again, a mob overthrows a government, Barry recognizes the mob installed "government", and who wins? The most radical Muzzies with an interest in creating the instablity or overthrowing the government win and that's that. Just like the easternmost part of Syria being the shortest route for the Saudi pipeline and Saudis funding rebels in that part of the country. All just coincidence, right?
Ukraine only differs in that the goal was to make the source of supply look as uncertain as if it came from the Middle East, not taking over a government outright.
The Southern Stream project bypasses all of that, and now that the Bulgarians have chosen that over the Saudi Project, Russia’s position gets even stronger.
The EU can plan anything it wants to, but as the Germans have found out, actually getting anything done about it, because of the Green Enviro-nazi’s, could take a decade or more of courtroom BS alone.
If you're right, that would only fit with old news. That seems to happen Hell of a lot more often than I would have expected it to but then it looks like people are trying to fill an information vacuum with whatever they dig up.
You mentioned this on another thread and I thought I had just heard something still newer.
Thanks
More of soviet closet propaganda, Saudi Arabia does not export Natural Gas.
Damn clown. Fracking, coal, “green energy” (in places where it actually makes sense not central planned “we need x% from alternative sources till year YYYY” garbage) & LNG import from Canada/USA. That's what need to be done.
“I think the article proposes how the EU will talk about coping with the threat of interruption of supply from Russia. Actually increasing supply from other sources requires action. “
Yeah, there’s plenty of gas and oil in and near Europe. Lots of new found fields starting with Israel then running around the eastern Mediterranean up through the Adriatic Sea. There’s even gas and oil fields in Germany waiting to be developed and brought on-line if fracking would be allowed. Folks over there just need to get off their @$$’$. Guess we could say the same about the Dem’s here in the U.S. Get out of the way!!!!!
Standard wishful thinking by the Euroeweenies. The infrastructure to do this simply does not exist and can’t be built overnight, especially because of the massive EU regulatory regime.
Yeah, yeah, gutter, stutter, utter, produces the gas and the Saudis were going to pay the lion share of the cost of the pipeline that came ashore theire and crossed their country. You could look up the facts or you can continue to pretend that it’s just propaganda.
What you’re missing is Putler’s adventure has cost Russia negotiating leverage with China to buy Russian gas for which an expensive pipeline has yet to be built. Putler may have also put a bullet into the brain pan of the Southstream pipeline which was designed to bypass Ukraine. Even if he takes Eastern Ukraine, the current pipelines still transit Western Ukraine.
On a scale that ranges from “Genius at work” down to “Hey, shit for brains! What were you thinking?” Putler has triggered geopolitical developments that make me think he’s operating at the lower end of the scale.
As Europe develops more LNG capacity they also open the door to American LNG which will eliminate OPEC’s ability to price fix. That’s more than a good thing when the flood of American gas kills the market for those currently using high energy prices to fund their terrorist programs.
Did you miss the news that the previous Ukrainian criminal government leaders stole $35 to $45 billion before they decided the only way to keep their retirement plan was to seek a healthier financial venue that would allow them to keep their loot? The interim government found the cupboards empty when they looked.
Much of Putler’s heartburn over the development was the previous Ukrainian government was a criminal enterprise like his own. Putler used disinformation to prevent his own subjects from getting ideas. Western media, always such discerning purveyors of BS, picked up Putler’s message and rebroadcast it. Many here in this country, including you, obviously believed it.
And at what cost??
Not a large enough share to suit them and evdery time there's some sort of mess in the ME the share they supply falls for at least a while and sometimes permanently. The goal of the Saudis is to make Russian supply look at least as fickle as supply from the Gulf.
Now, what's the real result of the mess in the Ukraine? It makes the supply from Russia look as fickle as supply from the ME. Mission accomplished, and accomplished at the cost of just recognizing a mob that overthrows the government is is known to be made up of people half or more of the population don't want to have in power.
See post 15 to understand why it is not BS. It’s already happening.
They will gladly pay more for a gas supply which is not subservient to imperial political ambition.
The EU leadership is almost as insane as Barack Obama.
