Exactly what I have done and do. Keep a local guy busy turning a wrench (even thirty year old bikes can be salvaged relatively easily in some cases).

“more money than brains”...heard that expression a lot at my first job from the old farmer who employed me.

The company doesn’t pay but the owners do. What’s the big deal?

I mostly agree. The difference between a "C" corporation and an "S" corporation is that the regular "C" corporation usually pays more in the form of double taxation--that is, anything the owners take out above and beyond their agreed in advance salaries is taxed both as corporate profit and again as individual dividends.

So, jealousy is the issue!

In saying “what’s the big deal” I was reacting to the absurd headline that made her sound like a criminal.

“The company also received an $875,000 loan funded by Wisconsin taxpayers, while Burke was serving as Secretary of Commerce for the state.

Trek used the loan to build a new facility, and $392,300 of that loan was forgiven, according to Bjorling.

According to Fox 6, Burke herself paid more than $120,000 in taxes in 2012. However, the Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel also reported that Burke avoided paying state taxes in the early nineties despite her claims that she began working for Trek in 1990.”

Corruption anyone?.

The 800k loan sounds like a very dirty deal to me

Typical rat hypocrisy, support high taxes and then evade paying them yourself.

For one thing the individuals only have to pay FICA on what they feel they are worth and do not have to pay FICA on any disbursement at the end of the year.

Trek makes good bikes. Didn’t even know that it was a domestic brand though.

You'd better be ready to go after every auto plant built in the south for the last 20 years, then. States do this sort of thing all the time, figuring they'll make the money back on the taxes paid by the workers at the plant and the economic activity they generate. The alternative is seeing jobs go out of state or overseas.

It sounded as if she was instrumental in giving her own family business a large government loan and then forgiving almost half of it. How does that not sound dirty?

The best thing would be to stop government from giving loans, period.
