Arianna, my dear brainless twirp. A gun, knife, hammer, baseball bat are inanimate objects that sit there harmlessly until picked up by a criminal thug intending to do harm. If you want to do something productive to protect children, start a crusade to get the criminal thugs off the street and in jail where they belong. Don’t take away my right to possess a firearm which I may use to defend myself and my children from these criminal thugs. I am sure you would tell me to call a cop for protection if I am threatened. The cops are only there to investigate the murder scene and draw chalklines after the fact.
