If Kiev does not pay its gas bills by June 2, exports to Ukraine will be halted the next day, Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller said. Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev meanwhile urged demanding advanced payment from Kiev as early as Tuesday.
Miller told Medvedev on Monday that Gazprom will issue a preliminary June bill to Ukraines Naftogaz on May 13. According to Miller, Kiev already owes the company more than $3.5 billion, which compares to Gazproms annual gas supply to Poland.
In case Ukraine does not pay for the June supplies, Gazprom will notify the Ukrainian side, before 10am on June 3, and the volume of gas will be supplied to Ukraine in accordance with the advanced payment, Miller said.
He added that if Kiev pays for zero cubic meters of gas, it will receive none.
Medvedev said that it is time to stop nursing Ukraine, urging Miller to switch to advance payment as early as Tuesday. He noted that Kiev has the money needed to pay back its debts.
They have the opportunity to pay back before the end of May, to pay the needed sum or at least some part of it, in order to start related negotiations with Gazprom to demonstrate their willingness to settle the debts. So far, we have not seen see any willingness from the Ukrainian side, which is regrettable, Medvedev said, as quoted by Interfax.
Russia received the information that Kiev had already received the first part of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan, the Russian prime minister said.
Russian energy minister, Aleksandr Novak, said the sum received by Kiev from the IMF amounts to $3.2 billion of the total $17.1 billion agreed.
Russia is ratcheting up the pressure on the West now. Medvedev has warned Europe that gas supplies after that date could be "inconsistent" if Ukraine gets cut off.
And, in other related news: Russia: Historic 30-yr gas deal with China set to be signed next week http://rt.com/business/158396-gasprom-russia-china-cnpc/#.U3DndeKd6Bg.twitter
From Obama: We get the Libya mess, almost arm Syrian “rebels,” sided with Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, etc.
Now Ukraine “sanctions.”
30 year gas deal. Putin “sanctions, what sanctions. Capital outflow? That has now come to an end.”
Obama really knows how to pick em!
And the deal comes just as there are rumors that the Saudis are willing to cut the price of oil they sell.
Russia becomes the primary gas/oil supplier for a hugely thirsty China, and trades in Yuan/rubles, instead of dollars.
As usual, Obama is a day late, and a dollar short.
They can trade in yuan and rubles if they want. But they can only spend rubles in Russia and they can only spend yuan in China.
Maybe those morons in Kiev should have thought of this possibility before overthrowing their government.
I know, let’s get the Americans to bail us out. We’re too big to fail.
“those morons in Kiev” are doing largely whatever the morons in the White House are telling them to do.
Plenty of evidence for that, now.
The radical academic Socialists in DC don’t want to negotiate with Putin, they wanted to embarrass him. Putin turned the tables, and now even Europe’s economic future is at risk.
I think shutting off the gas is great, best thing to
help Ukraine, EU, and US. Will force them all to drill,
frack, build energy plants, US deliver gas and coal,
force out green commie dummies. Putin has helped
stop fracking everywhere in EU/Asia but in russia.
Prices will drop like a rock, you and I can afford gas,
gasoline, and power bills again. So will EU.
Russia will be broke, putler will be found in a ditch
with bag of sand on his back.............hooray...
That will take YEARS, especially now, with the Russia-China energy agreement to be signed next week.
In the meantime, the price of energy will SOAR in Europe due to scarcity, and the economies will collapse, leading to widespread unrest.
Putin can find other customers.
Finding other supplies for Europe will take YEARS, as Germany has learned the hard way. It gets awfully cold in Europe, in the winter.
It’s better for the Europeans to learn that Russia is run by a bloodthirsty gangster mafiya and is not in any way a reliable energy supplier.
You are full of it, EU only gets about 15% from the
lines through Ukraine plus what Ukraine gets.
Only 15% easily made up by US and others if they want to.
They got to want to, as well as go wide open on energy
and crash prices
Ukraine has own fields, huge storage fields, huge
shale gas and oil field bigger than the Bakken.
Are you a globalist that wants to keep energy cost high.
If things can be forced right the globalists and
putler who start all the shit will both be in the ditch..Ed
“Only 15% easily made up by US and others if they want to.”
Take away that 15%, and watch what happens.
There isn’t enough sealift, or pipeline capacity anywhere in the world that could handle that, for years. It would cause economic chaos in Europe, just as it did in 2009.
Norway has already stated they can’t produce more gas.
PS- Stop making crap up about “globalists”. Reality is what reality is.
PS- Even Japan is now talking about a direct pipeline link with Russia, to secure an constant supply.
Ogawa: Japan looks afresh at Russian pipeline gas
http://www.interfax.com/interview.asp?id=501609
You just lost your own argument, If we don’t have to
tie up ships to Japan they go to EU, and that
amount, by far. is much more than the 15% that has to
be made up. prices still drop.. hell build 2 to
Japan and 5 to China from putler, price drops more.
quote- crap up about globalists
Geez make up your mind...
You puttee people said it was US, EU, Globalists
who started trouble in Ukraine instead of
a popular rebellion to get rid of russian supported
crook who stole 80 billion....
AS far as gas goesa, why are all putinistas so damn
afraid of russia losing sales and price dropping.
Wouldn’t mankind be better of with much cheaper energy???
