White House sidesteps question about French-Russian warship deal

White House spokesman Jay Carney avoided responding directly to a question about France's decision to honor its $1.66 billion contract with Russia for Mistral helicopter carriers and reject pressure from the U.S. and other European leaders to punish Moscow by canceling the deal.

Carney on Monday said he didn't have “a specific reaction” to the news of France's decision and continued to emphasize U.S. efforts to work with European partners on a coordinated approach to “escalating the costs to Russia for its approach to the challenges in Ukraine.”

SNIP---- In making its decision to follow through with the 2011 deal for amphibious assault ships, French officials said canceling the deal would do more harm to Paris than Moscow.

If the French really gave a damn about Ukraine, they would eat the costs.

But, they don’t, and while they may sing along with Obama and Kerry’s BS, the reality is that they aren’t going to harm themselves over it.

Which is pretty much the position of the rest of Europe, as well, it seems.

Obama threw France under bus when they were going to back up a strike against Syria, and they got burned on the leading from behind crap in Libya.

Many EU leaders absolutely do NOT want to have to bail out Ukraine. In fact, it could destabilize the EU in a way not seen before, even with Greece.
