A 64-year-old man has been charged with unlawfully being in a house after he was allegedly found drunk in a two-year-old girl’s bedroom, just south of Hawkesbury, Ont., on Sunday.

The man, George Telfer, 64, of Dalkeith, was also charged with public intoxication.

The incident, which took place in the rural township of Champlain, is being investigated by Hawkesbury provincial police.

According to police, the man was found sitting on the child’s bed in the early hours of the morning.

The toddler’s parents were alerted to the situation after hearing noises coming from her room shortly after 5 a.m. on Sunday.

It’s alleged that when the girl’s father got out of bed to check what was going on, he found the man sitting on the child’s bed.

Police say the man, who was very intoxicated, left the house after the father told him to get out.

When officers arrived they found him sitting on the patio. It is not clear how he entered the home.

He was arrested and detained until he sobered up, police said.

Yes, for the seconds it took to size up the situation it would be terrifying, but we don’t have to pretend that we are all incompetent boobs who can’t handle situations, and react to them as the men we are.

Take the story as it is written, a harmless old alcoholic wandered into the wrong house, and the cops are holding him until he sobers up, and charging him with being drunk in public.

I wonder if this will turn into another one of those breast beating threads where people express their hysterical nature by one upping each other with tales of how quickly they would have misinterpreted the situation, or over-reacted and blown him away, or beaten him senseless, after they realized that he was just a drunk in the wrong house.

Are you foolish enough to NOT want to beat up a complete stranger who has burglarized your home and entered your daughter’s bedroom?

Arrested and detained until he sobered up?
Who is he? Otis Campbell from the Andy Griffith Show?
Did he have his own key to his cell, like Otis?

How in the h3ll did the old fart get into the house? Someone wasn't using very good OPSEC.

If anyone can get paste my security measures (Exterior motion-sense lighting, bolted & braced solid doors with alarm triggers, alarm motion sensors, barred windows with alarm triggers, bolted interior doors and several 180Db sirens and 1 dog) they'll be met with deadly force even before they can get to any of our bedrooms.

And no, I don't live in a big city.

Is this a rural area where no one locks their doors? I confess I did not read the article.

This happened in a rural area. There are plenty of long guns in most homes in rural Canada. (The guy’s lucky his head wasn’t taken off with a hockey stick.)

All we have is an impression, the article doesn’t mention those details, but the town is 10,551 people, less than twice the population of Mayberry.

This is probably an elderly town drunk, judging by the charge of PI, and being held to sleep it off.

Have you ever in your life been so drunk, you couldn’t tell you were entering a home you shouldn’t be, then sitting in a toddler’s room with all the children’s goodies laying around?

That guy wound up in my child’s bedroom, and he would be lucky to be breathing beyond several minutes later.

He was sitting up when encountered.

One has to question just how drunk he was, if he could break into that kid’s bedroom in the dark. Someone that drunk would have a hard time functioning to that degree.

If you work hard enough, and don’t read the article, you can construct a situation where we have to lynch the guy and then burn his body.

This guy goes into a house and just happens to wind up in the two year old toddler’s room? Really?

He’s sitting on the toddler’s bed? Really?

No problem here because he was drinking? Really?

The police held him until he sobered up? Evidently this means they let him go.

Ansel12, I can tell you that at the very least, this guy would have been beaten to a pulp within an inch of his life. What if these parents hadn’t woken up?

What else could he have done in his drunken stupor that some folks would have said, “Oh come on, you want to punish him like that for being drunk?”

Ansel12, I’m not buying the line you’re selling here.

If the guy doesn’t want to wind up dead, I’d suggest he stop drinking that much. If he enters my home and winds up in bed with my two year old, he’s made one mistake to many.

you are foolish enough to want to beat up 64 year old alcoholics.

So by default and using your example of logic, YOU are OK with anyone sneaking into your home and sitting on your two year old daughter's bed. At 5am. Correct?

By focusing on your 64 y. o. alcoholic fixation, you are totally ignoring the obvious issue. The point is not how old the alcoholic was, or even that he was an alcoholic. He was where he had no right, permission, or business being. You take a specific wrong, misstate the content of the wrong, then generalize it to include the entire class of 64 y.o. alcoholics as if THAT was the important point.

To summarize, you created a strawman to obfuscate the facts, then want everyone to agree that it was ok for your strawman to do what he did. But then rational thought has never been evidenced as one of your strong points. I'm sure there is an opening at NPR for someone of your obvious abilities at misstating the facts. Or you could apply at CNN or MSNBC, they need all the help they can get.

Are you sure you aren't Alaska Wolf reincarnated? He circularized logic much as you do.
