Then what was it?

Every silly argument and conspiracy theory doesn’t pass the logic test.

No, it was taking the BPA with the 7th to last pick in the draft, nothing more.

There’s no conspiracy or anything else going on, except in people’s heads.

And again, the Rams are the worst place he could have gone to due to their talent and depth on the DL - the Rams didn’t do Sam any favor by picking him as the Rams are the team that he is least likely to make the roster.

Again, people need to use logic here.

And the sooner they cut him, the sooner the chance he has to catch on with another team. One that is deficient on the Defensive Line where he might be able to contribute.

But don’t you see how you contradict yourself, you’re saying that the Rams really don’t have a need at that position, yet they took him anyway. Certainly there were other players still on the board at positions they had a bigger need at.

Since my knowledge of hockey is minimal, I'll bow to your superior expertise on the matter. I know the basic rules, and I like to watch the Cup. But evaluating the merits of individual players is beyond me never having played the sport.

But I'm wondering how many sports fans think there's no black players in the game? And if there were more black players, would more black Americans watch?

Loves sports all my life.
Despise ESPN with an absolute passion, and totally avoid their commentary.
Will watch a game on ESPN if it appeals to me.
Yo, "Boomer" Berman, when you talk you sound like you're staining at stool. Look up "Valsalva Maneuver" and try Ex-Lax.

Players with talent that don’t get drafted get signed as UDFA’s (Undrafted Free Agents) and each team signs about a dozen or so UDFA’s right after the draft with the hopes of finding a diamond in the rough, so if any NFL teams felt there were more talented players than Sam, they could easily sign them as an UDFA so it’s not like Sam took away anyone’s chance to play.

If a team had a player on their board but didn’t draft him, then they offer him a UDFA contract.

Just because someone isn’t drafted doesn’t mean they are not allowed to play in the NFL.

Kurt Warner was never drafted, yet he was a two-time league MVP as well as a Super Bowl MVP and took two of the leagues worst franchises to the Super Bowl, winning SB 34 in 2000 when a year before, no one outside of the Rams and their fans had ever heard of him.

Black Canadians are not like American blacks, in general. Most Canadian blacks come from the Caribbean, and are only several generations removed from there.

You're missing the point. What was the name of the person drafted before Sam? After? Are *full* NFL crews in every war room on day 3? No. And it was an ESPN crew who filmed it because the camera guy, and ESPN employee, was also interviewed about why he continued to 'roll' film.

The *only* reason he got coverage is because he's gay. That's it, and that's all. And that's the travesty. It's not because he's talented.

I highly doubt anyone would have cared about him being drafted by the Rams or anyone else if the coverage wasn't so over the top.

There's a reason pro athletes don't come out of the closet. ESPN showed exactly why with their over the top coverage.

It was ESPN and the NFL network who turned this into a circus. Just like they did with Manziel. Just like they did with Tebow.

And the NFL Network is STILL talking about it. They're website is covered with Michael Sam stories.

Again, teams will often take the Best Player Available even if it’s not a need position.

The Rams have arguably the best DL in the NFL, yet they still used their 13th overall pick on Defensive Tackle Aaron Donald.

That’s not a contradiction, that’s what teams do. They often take the best player available, even in the 1st round.

The Patriots took a QB in the 2nd round even though they already have one of the best in Tom Brady.

Thank you for the explanation, but I understand how UDFAs work with the draft, etc. Michigan State proudly has all but 2 of its seniors signed to UDFAs or invites for tryouts. Hoping a few of them can be the diamonds in the rough.

As for Sam, he will have little chance to make the Rams squad. He would have likely had a better chance to catch on with a 3-4 team who needed depth.

He could get multiple offers and pick between them. That just happened with a MSU player.

And that’s assuming the team and scouts follow the BPA theory. Other teams draft for need or depth. So to say it was BPA is also guessing.

The point is, the Rams took the BPA near the end of the draft despite all the silly conspiracy theories that don’t pass the logic test.

And again, how is that homo NBA player doing?

He’s riding the bench and not getting any playing time because he’s a marginal player, much like Sam who will see very little playing time if he makes the team.

The Rams were the worst team in the league that could have picked him because they are deep and talented at DE and likely won’t carry Nine Defensive Ends.

Again, people need to use some logic.

Rams took the best player available at the end of the 7th round and Sam is a the type of player picked in the 7th.

It’s not like we’re talking about a Day 1 or a Day 2 pick here. 7th rounders are throw away picks and you pick them and hope you find a diamond in the rough.

The Rams had three 7th round picks and took the best player available with the pick, plain and simple.

Had he not been drafted, he would have been signed by some team as an UDFA and the same people would be saying “The NFL forced them to sign him” and other silliness.

He either makes the team or he doesn’t as there isn’t any Affirmative Action in pro sports.

And if he gets cut, which is likely for a 7th, the homo’s will throw a hissy fit but it won’t matter.

What are they going to do? Sue the Rams/NFL?

Good luck with that.

They’re going to have to sit there and take it and won’t be able to do a damn thing about it except bitch and whine.

Personally, I can’t wait to see it.

I had a good laugh some years ago when during the Olympics it was announced that Canada had won some track sprint relay. I thought to myself how strange a country as white as Canada could win a spirnt event in the Olympics. Then the light went on. I’ll bet they’re all black I said to myself. And they were.

I look for Sams to be a major PITA, especially if he isn't made a star.

It doesn't bother me that he is gay, but it does bother me that he will be flaunting his homosexuality all over the media and the hate speech nitpickers will be endlessly crying about how intolerant we are if we don't wish to be inundated with ongoing spectacles about his “gayness.” I will not be forced to accept Sams’ sexual orientation and the media hoopla about it. I can express my disapproval with my tv remote and my wallet — no more football merchandise.

That's flawed reasoning. Jimmy G wasn't the BPA in the 2nd Rd. when the Patriots picked. You're assuming that's why the Pats picked him. The trade talks for Mallett are still in play, whether its the Texans or someone else. They clearly think they need an upgrade at QB, especially with Mallett at the end of his rookie contract. Jimmy was drafted out of need/depth, not BPA.

And as for the BPA theory, it doesn't always work. Case and point: Detroit Lions, esp. under Matt Millen.

I’m sure the Democrats are already begging him to run for office once he’s done with football (which should be pretty soon).

Which is why I said the Rams didn’t do him any favors by drafting him as they play a 4-3 as well as having the best DL in the NFL

Sam is a ‘tweener - too slow to play OLB and too small to play DE

He’ll likely fill out and will play DE anyways, but extra weight will make him slower than he already is.

Local kid who played his college ball at Mizzou and SEC co-defensive player of the year made for a good pick for STL for a late 7th, but he has little chance of making the team other than as a ST player or PS player.

He would be better off getting cut early and trying to catch on elsewhere.

He stopped just short of saying he wasn’t drafted higher because he’s gay. *THAT* is what turns me off about him. There is no entitlement because you’re gay, or black, or anything else. There’s talent, skill, drive, motivation, and leadership. If you didn’t get drafted where YOU thought you should, perhaps the problem is with YOU, not everyone else (you meaning Sam).
