motorist who allegedly brandished a gun at another driver.

Turns out the driver who displayed the handgun was an agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, a State Patrol report said.

The incident began about 6:40 a.m. on eastbound I-694 in Brooklyn Park, where a motorist called police to report that another driver was displaying a gun.

The motorist followed the gun-toting driver east to I-94, and then south on I-94 into Minneapolis.

Police caught up to that driver on I-94 at Olson Hwy. and blocked two of the southbound lanes for a short time while making an arrest. That was enough to cause traffic to jam up back to West Broadway.

The State Patrol took the man with the gun into custody. He was questioned and released after officers learned he was an ATF agent who was carrying proper credentials.

His name was not released per Minnesota State Statue 13.82, which states that data would reveal the identity of an undercover law enforcement officer can be kept private.

The incident is under investigation.

They have an office downtown Dallas, same building as the CIA.

Thank you! A few people suggested some improvements which I quoted here, but familial pride wins out...

“Does that mean charges were dropped because he was law enforcement?”
Of COURSE, comrade! And if he had shot the guy he was brandishing AT, he would have been in fear of his life, of course! /sarcasm ;)

nuking all of batfe would be a wonderful start.

Alcohol, tobacco, firearms - that should be a convenience store, not a gov agency.

As usual the badge is a 'get out of jail free card'.

Quickly released back onto the streets and identity kept hush hushed. Just another bully cop who will end up killing someone’s loved one for no reason than he can.

“Brandish” a gun at me, in traffic, during a “road rage” incident... And a number of bad things will happen to you.

I drive a beat up old truck. It’d be the first thing I hit you with. You point a gun at me? My reaction would be turning my steering wheel hard into your lane. It’s a 4800lbs weapon of initial resort.

You survived that? And you are STILL pointing a gun at me? Better hope you get off the first shot because I have a carry permit as well and I’m a pretty good shot myself. My carry piece is a full-sized semi-auto in a magnum class caliber. No 9mm or .40 Short and Weak here.

Later on we’ll worry about how much “protection” your Federal credentials bought you while laughing over the coroners report on how much damage I did to you.

Relax. Drive safe. Don’t point guns are folks when you get pissed off...

There really are a lot of people who would have just shot him or run him off the road for that.

Yep. Some of us get real serious when someone brandishes a weapon. and we'd ask questions later.

I drive a beat up old truck.

They are cheap, strong, and if running right, generally pretty powerful. In a pinch, you don't worry about the paint, and who cares about trade-in value on something you won't trade in? It's paid for, and I have no qualms about using mine for a defensive weapon if need be.

That’s the idea exactly...

I’ve never understood people who GET OUT OF THEIR CARS in a road rage incident. So the rager is coming right at you... BFD. Your car ain’t gonna slow down much as it runs him over.

Why I cringe when I see commercials about vehicles that "won't let you run into anything", have 'automatic braking'.

There are conceivably times when a collision might be a desirable outcome, and I am reasonably sure police cars will not be so equipped so they can perform Pitt maneuvers.
