CAMP PENDLETON A surf contest pitting top area surfers from several branches of the armed forces against surfers from the British Army is set for May 24 at Camp Pendleton.
This is the fourth year Red Bull is holding the Rivals Surf Competition on base, but the first year that the contest has international participants.
The U.S. teams 12 active-duty military surfers were picked based on performance at last monthstryouts at the bases Del Mar Beach.
Teams compete at the Del Mar Jetty in a modified version of the National Surf Leagues game format.
The one-day contest is similar to a four-inning baseball game. Each team has 12 athletes with seven to eight active surfers participating in each inning.

One would think the competition would be held in Hawaii.
CHARLIE DON'T SURF!!!
Charlie don’t surf
First thing I thought of when I saw the title - it's also a pretty good Clash tune - (Charlie gonna' be a napalm star...")
The Lichtenstein Palace Guard unit is registered for their first attempt at international competition
Some of the most beautiful waves I have ever seen were at Del Mar beach, but it must be hit or miss compared to San Onfre. But nothing could be better than a competition at Red or White beaches where the competitors could be towed by AAVs.
I would like to see them do it full kit.
First thing I thought of was “Surfer Joe”, by the Surfaris.
The flip side to “Wipe Out”
Surfer Joe joined Uncle Sam’s marines today
They stationed him at Pendleton, not far away
They cut of his big blonde locks I’m told
And when he went on maneuvers Joe caught cold
Surfer Joe, now look at him go
Surfer, surfer
Surfer Joe, go man go,
Oh surfer Joe
Oh oh, oh oh, poor Joe
Nah, now that didn’t stop him or keep him away
When the surf was up he still had his day
They caught him at the trestle
Down by the sea
And now poor Joe is doing KP
Surfer Joe, now look at hime go
Surfer, surfer surfer Joe
Go man go
Oh oh oh oh Surfer Joe
Oh-huh-oh oh-huho oh-huh-o
(Poor Joe)
From a kinder, gentler time...
Little old soldier from Pasadena. Go gunny, go gunny go gunny go.
I used to surf the All Services Surf Championship at Trestles (Pendleton) in the 1980’s. The Navy even flew me from the East Coast out there to compete. Tough gig but someone had to do it.
AAV or LCACs? decisions decisions
well, that was some real dog duty! bet you had a ton of fun :)
on a side note, the NPS has it’s eye on Trestles, wanting to designate it a ‘national historic beach’ on behalf of some group called ‘Surfriders’, with assurances, of course, that the Marines can continue to use the beach for training - and we all know how reliable BLM assurances are. To quote from the Time article, “The Marines believe such assurances are as skimpy as a pair of Speedos.” Issa is helping the Marines fight against the designation.

Surfrider Foundation is a bunch of socialist green beach faggots. I grew up surfing, and surfed all over the world and hate to see so many surfers falling for the socialist claptrap.
