Jill Abramson out at New York Times, Dean Baquet will lead

Jill Abramson “is unexpectedly leaving the position” as executive editor of The New York Times, the Times announced Wednesday. Dean Baquet will be the new executive editor, Ravi Somaiya reports. “The reasons for the switch were not immediately clear,” Somaiya reports. Times Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. attributed the change to “an issue with management in the newsroom,” Somaiya wrote on Twitter.

Abramson became the Times’ executive editor in 2011. She is five years away from being 65, the age at which Times executive editors traditionally must retire. On Monday Times Public Editor Margaret Sullivan noted that under Abramson, “not only is the top editor a woman – the first — but many department heads and section editors are, too.”

We just had the circulation declines reported (below) for local newspapers and it’s a blood bath. All they have is tricks and games to keep their page hits and add clicks up.

http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2014/may/09/circulation-declines-reported-area-newspapers/?print

Excerpt:

Sunday circulation was down everywhere, including the Gazette, which saw Sunday’s print circulation drop 0.68 percent and Sunday’s online circulation drop 3.79 percent over this time.

The Times Union, a Hearst Corporation newspaper based in Colonie, had weekday circulation of 48,324, down 6.45 percent from 51,657 one year earlier. Sunday circulation fell 4.99 percent from 113,794 to 108,118.

The Post-Star, a Lee Enterprises newspaper based in Glens Falls, saw its weekday circulation fall 5.68 percent from 22,553 to 21,271. Sunday circulation fell 3.58 percent from 26,363 to 25,420.

The Leader Herald, an Ogden Newspapers publication based in Gloversville, saw its weekday circulation fall 7.86 percent from 7,378 to 6,798. Sunday circulation fell 3.99 percent, from 9,740 to 9,351.

The Saratogian and Troy Record, owned by the Journal Register Company, posted the biggest circulation drops in the region.

The Saratogian’s weekday circulation fell 18.47 percent from 5,857 to 4,775. Sunday circulation fell 14.64 percent from 6,229 to 5,317.

The Troy Record’s weekday circulation fell 12.87 percent from 7,352 to 6,406. Sunday circulation fell 4.75 percent from 7,732 to 7,365.

And they fired her, not even letting her resign.

Well, Pinch has been described as a vindictive little $hit.

The only paper I read in print is the local advertiser that has the local crime, business and sports news.

It’s free.

Wasn’t she having some doubts about Obama. Now Obama has his own editor sycophant at the New York Times.

You got it. Being a foaming at the mouth Marxist tyrannical sycophant for Obama is just not enough anymore. You have be black and all those things now and never had a single doubt.

“We’ve kidded ourselves into thinking that Dean is such an artful dodger, he could play this string out forever.”

Interesting quote from an LA Times Staffer when Baquet wast ousted there.
I used to think that School Superintendents were the highest-paid migrant workers in the country, but maybe I missed the Newspaper Editors.
The other thing is that papers are loosing readers at ever increasing percentages, but somehow most of them stay in business. The big ones anyway!

Yep. That may have been the last bit that was needed to get whatever agreement needed to replace her.

Abramson has said that Bush was not as secretive as Obama.

She also blasted the Obama admin for a draconian leak investigation policy...more than any President in history.

I don't like Abramson but I'm sure this is why she was canned. The NYT must NEVER speak negative of Obama. Will Dowd be next?

Maybe Jill got a job giving lap dances to drunks behind the bus station. It’s more honorable work and it probably pays better.

“The reasons for the switch were not immediately clear,” Somaiya reports.

Let me guess.

If there's something that Commies treasure even more than telling vicious lies, America-hating, and government-sponsored extortion, looting, and mass murder, it's Party purges.

Jill must have said something that did not adequately toe the Party Line. Or someone caught her sneaking a peek at a copy of the Constitution.

Buh bye, Jill...
